Filed Apr. 19, 1967, Ser. No. 631,945 1 Claim. (Cl. 30-3465) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A magazine for use in a razor, wherein the magazine has a continuous ribbon-like blade.
Field of the invention A magazine for providing a series of fixed ribbon-like shaving blades.
Description of the prior art Magazines providing a ribbon-like shaving blade from a coil are shown in Patents 2,492,292 and 2,591,702 and 3,262,198.
Summary In general the broad object of the present invention is to provide a magazine for a ribbon-like shaving blade which provides a series of fixed ribbon-like shaving blades. The magazine is removably mounted in a suitable holder for shaving.
By providing a simple inexpensive handle and a fixed magazine structure, a razor can be provided at a cost enabling the assembly to be sold at a very low price. The magazine is made up and assembled from only three prefabricated parts so that the cost of a refill magazine is relatively nominal.
The invention includes other objects and features of advantage, some of which, together with the foregoing, will appear hereinafter wherein the present preferred form of the magazine for a ribbon-like shaving blade is provided.
Brief description of the drawings Description of the preferred embodiments The present invention contemplates use of a magazine, generally indicated at 6. In the form shown the magazine is in the shape of an equilateral triangle having three sides of equal length. The magazine includes three separate parts, a base 7, a blade support 8 and a continuous ribbon-like blade 9, the latter having a continuous forward sharpened edge 11, and an unsharpened rear edge 12. The foregoing three parts are assembled into a unitary whole by placing the blade on the support 8 and then inserting these into the base 7. The continuous ribbon-like blade 9 fits the planar face portions 13 on the support 8 with the sharpened edges of the blade cooperatively adjacent to the gaging surfaces 14 which cooperate with the sharpened edge to support the blade in position for shaving.
With the continuous blade in place on the blade support 8, the sub-assembly thus achieved is then fitted into the base 7 to retain the sub-assembly in position in the base 7. Projection 16 are provided on each of the three sides of the blade support and these fit into receptacles 17 provided in the base 7. At each corner of the base 7 tongues 18 project to cover that portion of the continuous ribbon-like blade which provides the corner portion of the blade.
In practice, the assembled magazine is fitted onto a suitable handle or carrier structure, generally indicated at 21, and which includes a handle 22 and a magazine support 23 which in turn includes a projection 24 having a wedge shaped lip 26 which is received in one of the three apertures 19 in the magazine. A pin 26 is provided upon the portion 27 of the handle, the pin fitting one of the apertures 28 provided in each of the tongues 18 and in each corner of the blade support.
From the foregoing, I believe it is apparent that I have provided a new, novel, simple and improved form of magazine for a razor. The several elements can be formed of plastic so they can be manufactured in quantity and at little expense.
I claim:
1. A magazine for use in a razor comprising, a multisided receptacle having sides of substantially equal length, a multi-sided blade support received in said receptacle, a continuous ribbon-like blade of uniform width having a longitudinally extending sharpened edge, said blade be ing mounted on the several sides of said blade support, and said blade support including guard means adjacent the blade cutting edge to position the blade against the skin surface during shaving.
