2 Claims. (Cl. 30-32) The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in safety razors and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, an article of this character which may be produced and marketed at such low cost as to render its disposal after a single use economically feasible.

Another very important object of the invention is to provide a one-piece disposable safety razor of the character described comprising novel means for permanently securing the blade in position.

Other objects of the invention are to provide a disposable safety razor of the aforementioned character which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, compact, of light weight and attractive in appearance.

These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a disposable safety razor constructed in accordance with the present invention;

Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view through the device;

Figure 3 is a perspective view of the blade;

Figure 4 is a sectional view through the head, taken substantially on the line 44 of Figure 2;

Figure 5 is a cross-sectional view, taken substantially on the line 55 of Figure 2;

. Figure 6 is a fragmentary view in section, showing the blade before it has been secured; and

Figure 7 is a fragmentary view in section substantially similar to Figure 6 but showing the blade after it has been secured.

Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a tubular handle 10 of plastic or other suitable material, which handle may be of any desired dimensions. Formed integrally with the forward end of the tubular handle 10 is a solid or hollow neck 11 of substantially the cross-sectional shape shown to advantage in Figure 5 of the drawing. The tubular handle 10 is open at its rear end.

Formed integrally with the neck 11 is a head 12. EX- tending into the head 12 from the bottom thereof is an elongated recess or chamber 13 for the reception of a blade 14, said blade including a single cutting edge 15. The blade 14 is provided in its ends with notches 16 for the reception of ribs 17 which are integral with the end walls of the recess or chamber 13.

Extending across the lower portion of the head 12 is a slot 18 for the reception of the cutting edge of the asset Patented Jan. Zl, 1958 blade 14. The slot 18 defines a guard bar 19 which parallels the cutting edge 15 of the blade 4. The guard bar 19 is spaced below and rearwardly of the cutting edge of the blade. Formed integrally with the lower front portion of the head 12 are rounded guards 20 at the ends of the slot 18 for shielding the lower corners of the blade 14.

It is thought that the invention will be readily under stood from a consideration of the foregoing. In use, the razor is held in substantially the position of Figures 1 and 2 of the drawing. To mount the blade lid in the head 12, said blade is inserted in the recess or chamber 13, the notches 16 receiving the ribs 17. When thus positioned, the blade 14 is in face-abutting engagement with the front wall of the chamber 13 and the cutting edge 15 of said blade projects through the slot 13 in upwardly and forwardly spaced relation to the parallel guard bar 19. The ribs 17 are then mashed or upset in any suitable manner, as by heating (see Figure 7) for firmly and permanently securing the blade in position. As the razor is used the lather, etc., scraped from the face by the cutting edge 15 of the blade M passes freely through the unobstructed slot 13 into the recess or chamber 13. if desired, the razor may be marketed in a kit dispensed from vending machines.

The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.

What is claimed as new is as follows:

1. A disposable safety razor comprising: a plastic handle, a plastic head integral with said handle, said head having an elongated chamber extending thereinto from the bottom thereof and further having a slot therein communicating with the chamber and defining a guard bar, a blade mounted in the chamber and comprising a cutting edge projecting into the slot in spaced parallelism with the guard bar, rounded shields on the head at the ends of the slot for the adjacent portions of the blade, and means for securing said blade in the chamber.

2. A disposable safety razor comprising: a plastic handle, a plastic head integral with said handle, said head having an elongated chamber extending thereinto from the bottom thereof and further having a slot therein communicating with the chamber and defining a guard bar, a blade mounted in the chamber and comprising a cutting edge projecting into the slot in spaced parallelism with the guard bar, rounded shields on the head at the ends of the slot for the adjacent portions of the blade, and means for securing said blade in the chamber, said blade having notches in the end portions thereof, said means comprising ribs integral with certain of the walls of the chamber, said ribs being engaged in the notches and upset on the blade.
