OSCAR REIOHENBAOH, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
LOOP-BOX FOR BAG-FRAMES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 230,572, dated July 27, 1880.
Application filed March 24, 1880.
To all/whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OSCAR REICHENBAGH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Loop-Boxes for Bag-Frames, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to loop-boxes for the frames of traveling-bags, satchels, or other like articles; and it consists in the combination, with a loop for connection with the bandle of a traveling-bag or the like, of a swivelbar upon the loop, extending transversely thereto, and of a loop-box for attachment to a bag-frame, constructed to receive and hold the swivel-bar, leaving the loop to project from the box. The loop-box is open at the bottom,
and is attached to a bag-frame with such open bottom resting on the frame, so that the swivelbar is confined in the box by the frame.
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in Which Figure 1 represents a longitudinal section of the box with the loop. Fig. 2 is a crosssection thereof. Fig.3 shows the box in plan view. Fig; 4 shows the loop detached. Fig. 5 shows a portionof a bag-frame with two loopboxes.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
The letter A designates the loop, B the swivel-bar upon the loop, and O the loop-box.
The loop A is suitably, shaped to connect with a bag-handle, D, and is preferably inclined to the axis of the swivel-bar B, which latter extends transversely to the loop, and is located at the base thereof. This swivel-bar 1 B is cylindrical, and it is joined to or made in one integral piece with the loop A, the point at which the two meet being about midway between the ends of the bar.
The box 0 is provided with a longitudinal opening, 6, in its top, and it is open over the entire bottom thereof, while the swivel-bar B is beveled at its opposite ends. By this means oneis enabled to'introduce the swivel-bar into the box 0 through the top of the boxnamely, through its opening 6. The swivel-bar B has its bearings at theopposite ends of the opening 0 in the box.
(No model.)
The loop-box (l is attached longitudinally to a bag-frame-that is to say, to the frame of a traveling-bag-in the direction of its length, with the open bottom of the bar resting upon the frame. By this arrangement the frame is made a medium for holding the swivel-bar B in the loop-box.
In the example shown in Fig.1 the loopmeans of a loop formed with bearings at right angles thereto, the loop being connected with the handle, and the bearings permanently confinedin posltion upon the bag-frame by a slotted plate in such relation to each other that the loop stands in line with the bag-frame, while its bearings extend across the same.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The housing 0, formed with a longitudinal slot, 6, and with means for connecting it longitudinally upon the bag-frame, in combination with the loop A, haviugits swivel-bar B seated Within the loop in the direction of the length of the housing and bag-frame, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. In combination with thehousing having the opening 0, the loop A, provided with the swivelrbar B,formed with rounded or beveled ends, the construction being as shown and described, to enable the swivelbar to be inserted through the opening 6 after the housing is fastened upon the bag-frame, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
OSCAR REIOHENBAOH. [L. s.]
