ALEXANDER 1E. ,SQUYARS Ann WILLIAM 'I. HarlanR, or srnrnsnono, GEORGIA,
ASSIGNORS, BY MESNE ASSIGNMENTS} 'ro- WILLIAM r. HErNEn.
To all whom itmay concern Be it known that we, ALEXANDER E. S UYARs and WILLIAM T. HEFNER, citizens of the United States, residing at Statesboro, in'the county of Bulloch, State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mops; and We do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in mops, and more particularly to a novel form of mop head designed for the reception of bristles, felt or other material adapted for mopping purposes.
- An object of the invention resides in the provision of an article of the above character, in which the various parts may be readily manipulated to effect the clamping .or removal of themopping material.
A further object of the. invention is to provide a mop head which is extremely strong and; durable in construction, highly eflicient in use andone which comprises but few simple partswhereby the cost of production will be reduced to the minimum.
With the above and other objects of similar nature in view the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts set forth inland falling within the scope of the appended claim.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a front elevation of a mop constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2. is an end view thereof. Fig. 3 is a longitudinalsectional view through the device, and Fig. 4 is a perspective view with the parts in open position.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing, the mop comprises 'a head 10, handle 11, and mopping material 12, the
latter in this instance being illustrated as be noted that each end of the bar l 3 isreduced transversely as at 17 andv that normally engaged in these reduced portions are the looped ends 18, 18' of a wire frame 19,

'13 of the frame 19 to the bar.
said frame including spaced parallel bars 20 which constitute one element of the securing .means for the mop.
At one end of the bar 13 there is provided a plate 21, which is held in place by screws 22 or other suitable means and projects above and below the reduced portion 17, the upper extension thereof being provided with an I opening 23 through which is passed a pin 24 for hingedly connecting the looped end The lower extension of this plate 21 is provided with an opening 25 in which is engaged one end of a clamping rod 26, said rod being coextensive with and disposed below the bar 13 and adjustably supported at its opposite end in an eye bolt 27 loosely inserted through said bar. It will be observed that the rod 26 is provided adjacent its ends with notch 28 which is engaged respectively in the opening 25 and eye bolt 26 and serves to prevent longitudinal displacement of the rod.
It will further be noted that there is proits pivot to compress the mop adjacent its intermediate portions between the rods 20 of the frame and bring the looped end 18 thereof against the reduced end 17, of the bar. The latch member 29 is then slid forwardly on the bolt 27 and the thumb nut 31 tightened to clamp the mop between the bar 13 and the rod 26 and securely lock the frame 19in position.
Q What. is claimed is:
A mophead comprising a bar, a frame having "one end hingedly connected with said bar and its other end detachably engaged therewith, a plate on one end of the bar provided with. an opening, a rod disposed below said bar with one end engaged 'in said opening, a bolt loosely inserted through said bar and terminating in an eye to receive the other end of said rod, a
