. This invention relates to separable fasteners, and has for its primary object to provide a novel and improved fastener adapted to be employed on the edges of garments or the like. 1 D
\ A specific object of the present invention is to provide a separable fastener which will securely hold the edges of a garment or the like in closed or contiguous relation.
A still further object of the present invention is to provide a separable fastener of the above kind which comprises two separate members adapted to be fastened to opposite edges of the garment or the like, and which are adapted to be brought into engagement with each other and to remain inter-engaged until manually separated.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a separable fastener which'is simple in. construction and highly efficient for the intended The invention consists in the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.
In the drawing:
Figure l is an outside elevational view of a parable fastener constructed in accordance 'izith the present invention. Figure 2 is an edge elevational view thereof.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal section taken on line S-Sof Figurel.
Figure 4 is a transverse section taken online l -l of Figure 2; and L Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 3 showing a modification of the invention.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the presentseparable fastener comprises two members I and 8. The member 5 is. of substantially U-shape and consists of a centrally return-bent strip of spring metal having openings 1 in the folded end Application maxim, Ierhl Ila. 44am are interensased by inserting the member i between the portions or legs of the member I. The
"inner leg or portion of member 5 is provided with side flanges I! which extend along the edges of the other member or leg of said member 5 which 'isprovided with the. opening 8. In this way, the
flanges i2 guide the member 8 between the legs or portions of member I so that the head of stud Ii will readily enter the opening 8 when the members are interengaged. The legs or portions of members I- will yieldapart when the member 0 is inserted therebetween, springing together when the head of stud I'I'Qentersopening'l, so as to outwardly to disengage it from the head of stud I l and permit ready separation of the members of the fastener. The outturned end 9 of the leg of member I provided with opening i may be readily engaged by the finger or thumb for springing said leg or portion of member I away from the other leg or portion thereof to effect the release of member [from member I when separation of the fastener members is desired. As shown in Figure 5, the edges of the opening la maybe beveled, and the edge of thehead of stud Ila may be similarly beveled so that said head of stud li a flares outwardly and when it is engaged in opening to, an interlocking positive member to a garment or the like by stitching or tate attachment of the same to a garment or the like by stitching or similar means. Near the other end, the member 6 is provided with a lateral headed stud ll whose head is of a slightly less diameter than that of the opening 8 so that it portion thereof to facilitate attachment of the "respect to opening 8a before the members can be separated, by springing the legs or portions of separable fastener ,membert'ia. In this'form, the stud Ha is carried by a fastener member a similar to the member 6 of the form shown in Figures 1 to 4 inclusive. Otherwise, the construction of both forms is similar.
From .the foregoing description, it is believed fthat the construction and operation, as well as the advantages of the presentinvention, will be readily understood: and appreciated by those may readily enter the latter when the members skilled in the art. Minor changes in the details illustratedand described, are contemplated within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
What I clairnas new is: f A separable fastener of the character described comprising apair of separable members, one of said members being approximately U-shaped and comprising a strip of spring metal substantially centrally return-bent and having a circular aperture in one leg thereoifithe free ends of the legs of said member being outturned, and the leg not 2 .e "Winning aperture-being formed with side flanges extending along the edges oi the apertured leg, said member having openings near the ioldthereof to {militate attechment oi the nmo to ngnrmen't or the like by stitching or similar means, the'other member comprising an inner end portion thereof, the head oi said stud being of slightly smaller diameter than that of said opening in the first-named member, the edge 01 said opening being beveled, and the head of said stud being similarly beveled so as to have an outwardly flaring form and provide an interlocking positive connection between the fastener members when interengaged.
