Description

N. G. STEWART. CIGARETTE CASE. APPLICATION FILED AUG. 17, 1920.
Patented Aug. 16, 1921 INVENTOR ATTORNEY WITNBSES i.- STATES PATET OFFICE.
CIGARETTE-CASE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 16, 1921.
Application filed August 17, 1920. Serial No. 404,080.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NORMAN Gr. STEWART, a citizen of the United States, residing at Flint, in the county of Genesee and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cigarette-Cases, following is a specification.
This invention relates to a cigarette and match holder, the principal object of the invention being to provide a holder which ma be connected with the belt.
nother object of the invention is to provide means for facilitating the removal of the package of cigarettes from the case.
A further object of the invention is to form the case from two pieces of material so secured together that pockets are formed for the matches and cigarettes and a loop is formed for receiving the belt.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like ycharactersl denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a front view of the device with the flap open.
FFig. 2 is a cross section on line 2-2 of ig. 8 is a longitudinal section on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a view showing how the device is carried by the belt. 1
Fig. 5 is a view of a modification.
Fig. 6 is a bottom view of anothermodification.
As shown in these views the device is formed of two strips 1 and 2, the strip 1 having its ends secured together to form a pocket 3, 0 on at both ends. The strip 2 is sewn to t e front of the pocket and is then looped around the pocket and sewn or otherwise secured to the rear of the pocket, adjacent the upper edge thereof. The strip 2 is preferably connected to the rear of the of which the 7 pocket by horizontal lines of stitching while it is secured to the front by vertical lines of stitching at the edgesof strip 2. In this way the strip 2 forms a bottom for the pocket while a space is formed between the front part of the strip 2 and the front of strip 1 to form a match receiving pocket 4. Strip 2 is extended to form a flap 5 for closing the upper ends of both pockets, the lower ends of both pockets being closed by the looped part of strip 2. The space between the rear of the pocket 3 and the rear part of strip 2 is adapted to receive the belt 7 as shown in Fig. 4. i
A ribbon 8 has one end secured to the inner front wall of pocket 3 and its other end secured to the inner face of the flap, said ribbon being long enough to extend around the package of cigarettes, shown at 9, when said package is placed in the pocket 3. package of cigarettes can be drawn from the pocket. This is desirable when the cigarettes in one package have been used and it is desired to insert a new package. The flap 5 carries the female member 10 of a snap fastener, the male member 11 of which is located on the front of strip 2. I may use the member 10 to hold the end of the ribbon on the flap. The upper end of strip 2 which forms the pocket 4 is slightly below the upper front edge of strip 1 and both of these edges are rounded as shown so as to facilitate thewithdrawal of the cigarettes and matches from the two pockets.
As shown in Fi 5 I provide a metal clasp 12 for attaching the case to the belt or other article of clothes. This clasp is formed of a strip of metal which passes through the rear part of strip 2 and is looped with its inner part secured to said strip. Fig. 6 shows the'case provided with a match striking strip 13, this strip being detachably held to the bottom by the strips 14 which form guideways for receiving the striking strip.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that may make changes in the construction and in the Thus by pulling upon the ribbon the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is i I A case of the class described formed of two strips of material, one strip having its ends secured together to form a pocket open at both ends and the other strip having its side edges secured to the front of the first strip to form a second pocket and said second strip being looped across the bottom of the first pocket and secured to the rear side of the first strip at the top thereof to form a belt receiving loop and a flap formed by the extension of said second strip.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
NORMAN G. STEWART.
