My invention relates to improvements in tag fasteners and it consists in the novel features -which are hereinafter described.

One of the objects of my invention is to provide a fabric tag with a perfected means for fastening the same to a. gai-ment or a piece of linen in a way to prevent the disengagement of 'the garment from the fastener.

Another object of my invention is to prevent the disengagement of the tag from the fastener.

A further object of my invention is to prevent the laceration cf garments and of the hands of operators by the protrusion of sharp points from the fastener.

i5 A still other object of my invention is to have my improved tag fastener adapted to be made by mass production methods.

A further object of my invention is to have said tag fastener simple, durable and inexpensive.

Other objects and advantages will hereinafter appear.

I attain these objects by the tag fastnner, three forms of which are illustrated in the accqmpanying drawing, or by any mechanical equivalent or obvious modification of the same.

In the drawing, Figs. 1, 2, 3, and 4 show one form of my tag fastener; Fig. 5 shows another form of my tag fastener, and Fig. 6 shows a third form of my tag fastener.

Fig. 1 is a section on the line I--I of Fig. 2, looking in the direction of the arrows; Fig. 2 is a side elevation, looking from left to right in Fig. l, of one form of my tag fastener; and Fig. 3 is a side elevation, looking from the lower right hand end to upper left hand end of the fastener shown in Fig. 1, in a direction at right angles to the prong I2 thereof, which is hereinafter described, and omitting the tag.

Fig. 5 is a sectional view similar to that of Fig. 1. and showing another form of my invention; and Fig. 6 is another sectional view similar to those of Figs. 1 and 5 and showing a. third form of my invention.

In all the three modifications of my invention, Il and I2 designate the two prongs or legs of my fastener which are shown as continuous with each other at the bend I3. The leg II has a tag Il secured thereto by means of an eyelet rivet II which is integral with the leg II. A piercing tongue Il is slitted from the body of the leg II, as at I1, and is disposed to meet an opening Il in the leg I2, when the two legs or prongs are brought together,v after passing the tongue I8 through part of a garment to which the tag Il is to be fastened. 5 'I'he outer end of the leg I2 at the opening I8 has thereon a. portion which is bent to a double curvature at Ztl-2| as shown in Figs. 1, 5, and 6. On passing the tongue I6 through the opening I8 in the ieg I2, the legs Il and I2 are pressed 10 together, and the part of the tongue I6 which extends beyond the opening I8 in the leg I2 is bent into contact with the said portion 20-2 I, whereby the resistance to separation of the prong II and I 2 is increased. 1I

In the form of my invention which is shown in Figs. 1, 2, 3, and 4, the part of the leg l2 at the opening I8- is provided on the side thereof which is opposite the leg II with a depression which serves to guide the end of the tongue 20 I6 into the opening I8 when bringing the legs or prongs II and I2 together.

The leg I2 also has thereon on the side thereof, which is remote from the leg II, a longitudinally disposed pocket 22 which serves to re- 25 ceive therein the end of the tongue I6 when the latter has been passed through the opening I8 and after it has been bent along the doublecurved portion 20--2I on the leg I2 as hereinbefore described. 30

The pocket 22 is instrumental in preventing the laceration of garments and the hands of operators by the end of the tongue I6; and the longitudinal disposition of the pocket 22 enables the prongs or legs II and I2 to be relatively nar- 35 row, thereby saving metal and assisting in rendering my tag fastener inexpensive. l

In the modification of my tag fastener, which is shown in Fig. 5, the feature of the depression I9 is omitted for the sake of economy in manufacturing the fastener, but the other above described features are retained.

In the form of my invention, which is shown in Fig. 6, both the depression I9 and the pocket 22 are omitted, thereby still further reducing the cost of manufacturing of the fastener; but the feature of the double curved portion 2li-2l on the leg I2 is retained and the outer end of the leg I2 is offset from the plane of the main body 50 of the leg I2. Variations are possible, and parts of my invention may be used without other parts; I do not, therefore, restrict myself to the details as shown in the drawing. 55

2 Y I A:azafatas I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent:-

1. s, tag fastener made of sheet metal and having thereon a pair of legs and a tag attached to one oi' said legs, a piercing tongue on one of the said legsi'or attaching the same to a garment, an opening in the other leg or said tongue to pass therethrough, te secure said legs to each other during the operation of attaching the fastener to a part of a garment, and a portion on said other leg adjacent to said opening, having there-on an outwardly convex part and an out wardy-concave part adjoining the sarne, thereby forming a reverse curvature for bending thereon the said tongue exteriorly oLsaid other leg to an inwardly extending oiset after pressing the said two legs together with said garment part therebetween, and said other leg having thereon at the outer end thereof, on the side thereof which is opposite the irst mentioned leg, a depression at said opening for guiding the end of said tongue into the said opening during the operation of attaching the fastener to a garment.

2. A tag fastener made of sheet metal and having thereon a pair ci' legs and a tag attached to one of said legs, a piercing tongue on one of the said legs, for attaching the same to a garment. an opening in the other leg for said tongue to pass therethrough, to secure said legs to each other during the operatie-an of attaching the fastener to a part of a garment. and a portion on said other leg adjacent to said opening having thereon an outwardly eonvex part and an outwardly concave part adjoining the same, thereby forming a reverse curvature for bending thereon the said tongue exteriorly oi said other leg to an inwardly extending offset after pressing the said two legs together with said garment part therebetween, and said outwardly concave part of said portion on said other leg ferming part of a longitudinally disposed p-ocket in the outer side of said other leg, said pocket serving for receiving therein the end or said tongue when said fastener has been attached to a garment, thereby preventing the laceration of garments and the hands of operators by said tongue.
