Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEO DANIEL A. WOODBURY, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
CRANK-PIN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 230,098, dated July 13, 1880,
Application filed April 5, 1880. (ModeL) To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, DANIEL A. WOODBURY, of the city of Rochester, county of Monroe, State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Crank-Pins, which im provement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a longitudinal section, and Fig. 2 an elevation.
The object of my invention is to provide a convenient receptacle for tallow or other suitable substance for lubricating the joint in case of heating.
In the drawings, A is the pin, with chamher a and passages b b,- B, flange forming the outer shoulder for the boxes; 0, hollow tapbolt screwing into the end of the pin A, and securing thereto the flange B, and partially closing the chamber a; D, cap screwing into the bolt G and closing the chamber a. This cap is burred upon its edge, so as to be readily screwed in and out with the fingers.
The chamber a being suitably filled, the contents remain inert as long as the pin is properly oiled and remains cool but in case of heating they become liquefied and flow out through the passages b b, supplying the lubricant required.
The cap D furnishes a convenient means of examining the contents and refilling the chamher without disturbing the other parts, while,
by unscrewing the bolt (J and removing the flange B, the fit of the boxes may be readily examined when desired.
This invention is also applicable to the studs for idle-wheels, rocker-pins, and other similar purposes.
The operation of my device will be readily understood without further explanation.
What 1 claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the pin A, with its cham ber a and passages b b, flange B, hollow bolt 0, and cap D, all constructed and operating substantially as shown and described.
D. A. WOODBURY.
