POSTAL-CARD.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 229,893, dated July 13, 1880,

(ModeL) To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CYRUS KEHR, of Sterling, in the county of Whiteside and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Double Postal-Cards, which is set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

My invention relates to an improvement in double postal-cards; and it consists, essentially, in a novel mode of temporarily attaching the two folding sides together.

In the drawings, Figure 1 represents the card opened, the dotted line indicating the place of i'oldin g. Fig. 2 shows the two parts B and G folded and attached.

A is the entire card, consisting of the two equal parts B and O, creased or perforated for folding together at the dotted line, as shown in Fig. 1. The part B of the card is provided with the curved slit 1), forming the tongue (I, while the part 0 is provided with the curved slit 1), forming the tongue 61, said slits and tongues being directly opposite each other, so that when the parts are brought together it permits the tongues d and d to be pushed past each other by the thumb and finger, and results in interlocking the parts. In the lock or attachment as thus formed each of the tongues d and d is held between one of the continuous sides 0 0 formed by the curved slits and the other tongue, thus protecting the tongues and giving a species of double lock. The slits c and e, as shown in Fig. 1, are of the same kind, except that they are placed endwise to the edge of the card and are cut through the edge.

I prefer locating the lockin g device as shown at b and I), for the reason that being removed inwardly from the edge they leave the edge smooth and entire and not likely to catch or 0 tear.

It is my intention to use the outside of each card for the purposes of addressing the card in both sending and returning, and the inside for the message. On one side the stamp might be printed, and the sender, if he wished a reply at his own expense, could attach to the reverse side a one-cent stamp for return-postage.

Either one or more of such locking devices can be made on each card, as desired; and it may be desirable to make the card with two devices for locking, one of which can be used for sending and the other on the return.

I am aware that double postal-cards having interlocking devices for securing them to- 5 5 gether are old, and such I do not desire to be understood as claiming, broadly, as of my invention; but

consisting of the folding parts B 0, provided with similarly-curved slits, forming interlocking tongues for securing the parts together when folded, as specified.
