J L. BRINLY. Plow. No. 229,367. Patented June 29, 1 880,
ATTORNEYS.
N. PETERS PHOTO-LITHOGRAPMER, WASHINGTON. (.7v C.
to serve as a renewable point to the foot or PATENT OFFICE;
JOHN L BRINLY, or LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY. V L? PLOW.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Application filed April 21, 1880.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN LYLE BRINLY, of Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Plows, of which the following is a specification.
Figure 1 is a front perspective view of the improvement. Fig.2 is a rear perspective view of the same, theland-side being removed. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the land-side. Fig. 4: is a bottom view of the plow.
The object of this invention is to prevent the plow from .bein gbroken should the front bolt that secures the plow to the beam break, and to facilitate the renewal of the land-side when worn. I
The invention consistsin constructing the standard with a slot in the rear end of its crosshead, to prevent the standard from being broken should the forward bolt break, and also in constructing the 1and-side with an inwardlyprojecting lug or hook upon its forward end,
bar, as will be hereinafter fully described.
A represents the standard B, its cross-head top, and O the foot or bar. D is the land-side. E is the point, and F is the mold-board.
In the forward end of the cross'head top Bis formed a hole, G, to receive the forward bolt, that secures the plow to the'beam, upon which bolt, when the plow is at work, there is a strong longitudinal strain, and the bolt'head is liable to be broken off. When this happens the plowbeam rises, and the strain thus produced breaks 7 the standard, destroying the plow. V
To prevent this I form a slot, H, in therear Patent No. 229,367, dated June 29, 1880,
(No model.)
end of the cross-head B to receive the rear bolt, so that should the forward bolt break the rear bolt will slip out of the slot H, and any breakage of the plow will be prevented.
Upon the forward end of the land-side D is formed an inwardly-projecting lug or hook, I, which fits into a recess between the forward end of the bar or foot 0 and the shoulder of the point E, so as to serve as a point to the said bar or foot and take the wear. By this construction, when the land-side D is replaced by a new one the point of the bar or foot will also be renewed, so that the point E will always be properly supported and no cavity will be formed to receive trash.
The lower rear part of the bar or foot (J is cut away, as shown in Fig. 2, so that all the wear at the heel will come upon the landside, leaving the bar or footunworn. By this construction when the land-side is renewed it will always fit smoothly and snugly, so that it will be held firmly and there will be no cavityforin ed to receive trash.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent In a plow, the combination, with the footO and point E, of the land-side D, having at its front end an inwardly-projecting lug, I, fitting between said foot and the shoulder of said point, as shown and described, for the purpose specified.
