Description
M. D. DGZIER.
PLOW.
Patented Oct.24.-,1876.
N. PETERS. PHOTc-LITHUGRA UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MALACHI D. DOZIER, OF CAMDEN C. H., NORTH CAROLINA.
IMPROVEMENT IN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 183,654, dated October 24, 1876; application led June 26, 1876.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MALACHI D. DOZIER, of Camden C. H., Camden county, North Carolina, have invented .certain new and useful Improvements in Plows, of which the following is a specification; and I do hereby declare that in the same is contained a full, clear, and exact description of my said invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawing', and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
This invention relates to the mode of attachment ot' the land-side and standard carrying the mold-board to the plow-beam, and consists ofthe construction hereinafter shown and described.
In the description of my invention which follows due reference must be had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in section, of my improved plow, looking from the furrow side of the same; Fig. 2, a plan of the under side of the plow, and Fig. 3 a back View ot" the invention.
Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts of the invention inall the views.
A is the standard, to which is secured the moldboard B and land-side C. The upper part of the standard A is provided with a jaw, a, which assists in steadying the vertical brace D extending from the plow-beam to the landside. The lower end of the vertical brace D is inserted in a staple, E, projecting from the inner face of the land-side, and is further secured to the land-side and plow-beam by means of a hook-bolt, b. The bolt b passes through a hole in the upper part of the standard, and around the staple E, into an aperture in the vertical brace. The land-side C is furnished with a grooved rib, c, into which the back edge of the standard, which is reduced in thickness, is inserted, and a single bolt, d, serves to make the attachment permanent. The upper portion of lthe mold-board is designed to be removable, being fastened to the standard by two bolts only, in order that that part of the said mold-board may be detached and a larger or smaller one substituted, and the plow thereby adapted for garden use, or as a one or two horse plow. F is a removable heel, recessed into the back end of the landside, and secured thereto by means of a single bolt, e.. The heel, when worn by use, may be detached by removing the bolt c, and a new one substituted therefor. The renewal of' worn heels saves the expense ot' a new Iandside, which is rarely Worn sufficiently to render it unfit for service.
The merits of' my invention will be readily appreciated by persons of limited means, as they may have in a single implement a plow, the parts of which most subjected to wear are renewable, and one which, by slight alteration, is adapted to a variety of uses.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and wish to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
The standard A, provided with the jaw a and hole for the insertion ot' the hook-bolt b, the land -side C, having the staple E and grooved rib c, the vertical brace D, and hookbolt b, combined substantially as described.
