FRANKLIN H. WVISSLER, OF WINCHESTER, VIRGINIA.
PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 420,259, dated January 28, 1890.
Application filed October 3, 1889- Serial No. 325,932. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANKLIN H. WISSLER, of \Vinchester, in the county of Frederick and State of Virginia, have invented a new and .useful Improvement in Plows, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in plows, seeking to provide a simple construction of standard and point, whereby the point may be firmly secured in position and its securingbolts be in a great measure relieved of strain.
The invention consists in certain novel constructions and combinations of parts, as will he hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved plow. Fig. 2 is a view showing the several parts detached.
The mold-board A may be of any suitable construction and be secured to the standard B in any desired manner. On its front side the said standard 13 has an inclined face or bearing 1), which inclines to the front from its upper to its lower end and forms a suitable bearing for the upper portion 0 of the point (3, which is conformed to said hearing I), as shown. At the lower end of the bearing 17, 1 form a downwardly-facing portion or hearing Z), the purpose of which will be presently described. At the lower end of portion 0', and at about the middle of the height of the point, I form a hook like portion G which engages the bearing 1) and enables the point to be firmly braced against the standard, permitting the point to be secured firmly in position and relieving its securing-bolts of a great deal of the strain otherwise borne by them. Below the hook O the rear edge of the point has a forwardly-inclined portion 0 which extends nearly to the bottom of the point, a vertical edge or portion 0 extending thence to the bottom of the point, such portions 0 C coinciding with and bearing against corresponding portions D D at the front edge of the landside, such construction aiding in the bracing of the point in position.
It will be noticed that the construction is simple, inexpensive, presents no obstruction to the easy application and removal of the point, and is efficient for the purpose had in view.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is 1. In a plow, the combination of the standard having a downwardly-facing bearing 17, the point having an upwardly-facing shoulder 0 and provided below the same with portions 0 and C and the landside having at its front edge a portion D 'to rest against portion 0 of the point and an edge or portion D to rest against the portionC of the point, all substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. The improvement in plows, substantially as described, consisting of the standard B, having portions 19 b, the landside D, having portions D D, and the point 0, having portions 0', O O and C coinciding with and engaging portions 1), 1), D and D all substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
FRANKLIN H. VVISSLER.
