Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES W. THOMPSON, OF CROCKETT, TEXAS.
GAM E-BOARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 229,206, dated June 22, 1880.
Application filed January 14, 1880.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J AMES W. THOMPSON, of Crockett, in the county of Houston and Sta-te of Texas, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Game-Boards; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specication, and to the letters and ligures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l ofthe drawings is a representation of a top view of my improved game-board. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same, and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section.
This invention has relation to games to be played on bowling-alleys or boards with balls; and it consists in a game-board having atrough at its head and squared apertures near said head, and numbered cnbical blocks adapted to be revolved in said apertures, as hereinafter shown and described.
In the accompanying drawings, the letterA designates the alleydioor, having a trough, B, at the head, and in front of the same a number of square recesses or holes, C, which may be preferably ten in number, and arranged in the form of a triangle, in four successive rows, decreasing by one until the single aperture at the apex is formed. In each of these holes or apertures is .transversely pivoted, on bearin gs d, a cubical block, D, neatly fitting the aperture, but turning freely on its pivotal axis therein.
When the blocks are turned square their upper faces will be flush with the alley-surface, or nearly so, and when a corner is up it will project above the surface of the alley-floor. In the illustration the four blocks nearest the trough are each numbered on three sides with the number 10, and on the fourth side a cipher is placed. .In the next row of three each block is numbered 8 on three sides, having a cipher on the fourth side. The next two blocks are numbered 5 on three sides, each with a cipher on the fourth side; and the last block at the angle is numbered .l5 on three sides, having also a cipher on the fourth side.
Returning-troughs may be made on the alley sides, or a way, F, may be made below the alley-floor, to return the playing-balls, which are rolled over the blocks and tnlrn them in passing, thereby exposing numbers which score the player toward game or ciphers.
Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The game-board herein described, having the trough B at its head and the squared apertures O near said head, and the numbered cubical blocks D, adapted to revolve in said apertures, as described and shown.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
JAMES WHITEFORD THOMPSON.
