FLEXIBLE BAND FORBENDING WOOD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 228,597, dated June 8, 1880.
Application filed April 19, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, E. L. BUGKINGHAM, of
. Jefferson, Jefferson county, Wisconsin, have invented an Improvement in Flexible Bands for Wood-Bending, of which the following is a specification.
Figure 1 of drawings is an edge, and Fig. 2 a side, view.
The invention consists in a band for use in bending wood, that consists of short strips of sheet metal connected by rings, through which the wood is passed, the end strips being provided with hooks or stops, against which its ends rest.
In the drawings, B represents the strips of sheet metal, and d the rings by which they are connected.
It will be observed in Fig. 2 that the piece of wood for chair or other article is carried through the rings and is alternately on oppo site sides of the band with its ends against the stops.
W ith this device the chair-arm or other piece of wood is bent from the center toward both ends at the same time.
Having thus described all thatis necessary to a full understanding of the invention, what 1 claim as new is A flexible band for bending wood, consisting of the sheet-metal strips B, connected by rings (1, the end strips being provided with stops, as shown and described.
