To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAURICE E. WHITE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Norristown, in the county of Montgomery and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pipe-Cow ering Bands, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in pipe covering bands, and has for its object to provide an exceedingly simple and effective device of this character, whereby the loop or ring will always be stationary with relation to the strap or bale, and will always project therefrom in approximately longitudinal alinement there with.
A further object of the invention is to provide a pipe covering band consisting of a metallic strip which is perfectly flat or unbent throughout its entire length and having a loop or ring secured to one end thereof by passing a portion. of said loop or ring through the strap.
With these ends in View, my invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by the claims.
In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains, may understand how to make and use the same, I will describe its construction in detail, referring by numerals to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, in which- Figure 1, is a face view of a pipe covering band made in accordance with my improvement.
Fig. 2, is a reverse face view thereof.
Fig. 3, is an edge view thereof; and
Fig. 4, is a section of a pipe and covering showing my covering band on a reduced scale applied thereto.
In carrying out my invention as here embodied 2 represents my improved pipe covering band consisting of a narrow strap 3 of Very thin metal and at one end thereof are formed holes 4, through which pass the ends of the wire loop or ring 5, said ends being then bent back upon themselves as at 6 to firmly clench the loop to the strap.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have produced a pipe covering band or tie bale, which will save one thickness of the metallicstrap at the point of attaching the loop to said strap, and this additional metal will be saved so that the cost of manufacture will be less expensive.
Further there is less likelihood of the loop becoming accidentally displaced from the strap and since said loop always lies in a stationary position in alinement with the strap, it is much easier for the workman to place the band in position.
In Fig. 4, I have shown my improved band applied to a pipe covering for holding the same in place upon a pipe, and showing how the unobstructed end of the strap is placed through the loop 5 and then bent back upon itself.
Of course I do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction as herein shown, as these may be varied within the limits of the appended claims Without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, is
1. A pipe covering band or bale tie comprising a strap having a pair of holes in one end thereof and a wire loop, the ends of which pass through theholes in the strap and are bent back upon themselves to permanently and fixedly attach the loop to the strap, said loop projecting beyond the end of the strap as shown.
2. As an article of manufacture a pipe covering or bale tie comprising a metallic strap having a wire loop immovably and fixedly attached to one end thereof with the loop projecting beyond the end of said strap as shown and for the purpose specified.
3. In a device of the character stated a me tallic strap and a Wire loop of sufficient width to register with said strap, said loop being immovably and fixedly attached to one end of the strap and projecting beyond the end of said strap to which the loop is at tached so as to be engaged by the opposite end of said strap for the purpose specified.
