Filed Nov. 7, 1940 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 INVENTOR Frank-Spundca BY 1 G I ATTORNEY Patented May 26, 1942 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE GLOVE Frank Sperandeo, Brooklyn, N. Y. Application November 7, 1940, Serial No. 364,609
4 Claims. (Cl. 2-469) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a glove.
More specifically, the invention contemplates the construction of a glove which is characterized by a one piece trank having a back panel with four finger portions for the backs of the four fingers, a front thumb side portion, and a front small finger side portion.
More specifically, the invention proposes that the said front thumb side portion be provided with a complementary index finger portion continuing into a thumb back portion, in turn continuing into a quirk portion.
Another object of the invention resides in characterizing the front small finger side portion by providing it with a complementary small finger portion.
In one form of the invention it is contemplated to provide separate second and third complementary front finger portions arranged in a partlcular manner.
In another form of the invention it is contemplated to arrange the second and third complementary finger portions as an integral part of the one piece trank.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects andadvantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of a glove constructed in accordance with this invention and viewed from the palm side.
Fig. 2 is an elevational view of the glove shown in Fig. 1 viewed from the back side.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 3--3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a developed view of the one piece trank used in constructing the glove shown in Figs. 1-3, v
Fig. 5 is a developed view of the separate second finger complementary front portion used in the glove.
Fig. 6 is a developed view of the separate third finger complementary front portion used in the glove.
Fig. 7 is a developed view of one piece trank of a glove constructed according to a modification of this invention.
Fig. 8 is a developed view of one of the fourchettes intended to be used in conjunction with the trank shown in Fig. 7.
The glove, in accordance with the form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 1-6 inclusive, includes a one piece trank as illustrated in Fig. 4, having a back panel ID with four finger portions H, l2, l3 and I4, and having a front thumb side portion i5 and a front small finger side portion IS. The said front thumb side portion [5 has a complementary index finger portion l'l continuing into a thumb back portion [8, which in turn continues into a quirk portion IS. The front small finger portion l6 has a complementary small finger portion 20.-
The trank described in the prior paragraph is intended to be used in conjunction with a separate second finger complementary front portion 2| which continues in a complementary thumb front portion 22. In addition there is a sepa rate third finger complementary front portion 23 continuing into a portion 24 extending slightly down the palm of the glove. These various parts are jointed together at their adjacent edges with seams as thereinafter more fully described.
The seams of the glove may be better comprehended by examing Figs. 4, 5 and 6, visualizing the manner in which the glove is folded and stitched. The blank shown in Fig. 4 is folded along the line AB. Then the sections II and ll of the index finger are superimposed. The section I! has a side extension portion Il defined by the dot and dash line H, to give the necessary depth to the index finger. The sections of theindex finger are seamed together along their free edge portions.
The separate second finger complementary front portion 2| is provided with side portions! l defined by the dot and dash line 2!. These side portions 2| are bent backwards and their free edges are seamed to the free edges of the second finger portion l2. These side portions 2i give the necessary depth for the second finger. The adjacent edges l'l and 2| of the side portions of the index finger and second finger are seamed together.
The thumb portion I8 is bent downwards upon the dot and dash line l8 andthen the edge 2 is seamed to the edge I! and the edge 2| is seamed to the edge I8 and the edge 20 is seamed to the edge l8 to the points 2i and 18, respectively. The edge portion 2! is seamed to the edge portion IS.
The third finger complementary front portion 23 is superimposed on the third finger back section l3. The third finger portion 23 has side portions 2.3 divided off by the dot and dash lines 23. These side portions extend backwards and are seamed at their edges to the edges of the third finger portion l3. The adjacent edges Zl and 23 of the second and third finger portions are seamed together. The edge 2 l is seamed to the edge 24 I The front side small finger portion I6 is bent over on the line CD. The edge 24 is seamed to the edge 16*. The small finger portion 2E] is provided with a side portion'2ll defined by the dot and dash lines 20. This side portion 2% provides depth for the small finger. It is extended rearwards and seamed along its edges to the free edges of the small finger portion Hi. The edge 20 is seamed to the edge 23 The bottom edge 24 of the palm section 24 is seamed to an area I9 of the quirk portion H9. The side I9 of the quirk 19 is seamed to the edge I6 The side l5 of the front thumb side I5 is seamed to the side l6 of the front small finger portion I6. The back panel I!) is provided with ornamental stitches 28.
The dominating feature of the glove resides in the fact that the palm side of the second finger continues into the palm side of the thumb. Moreover, the third finger continues into the palm.
In Figs. 7 and 8 another form of the invention has been disclosed which distinguishes from the prior form in several respects. In this form it is intended that fourchettes be used at the sides of the fore finger. Moreover, the second and third finger portions are arranged integral with the one p ece trank. More specifically, in the form of the invention shown in-Fig. '7, the one piece trank includes a back panel 39 provided with four fingers 3|, 32, 33 and 34, a front thumb side portion 35 and a front small finger portion 36.
The said front thumb side portion 38 has a complementary index finger portion 31 which at the bottom continues into a front thumb portion 33, which continues into a quirk portion 39. The front small finger portion 35 is provided with a complementary small finger portion 4!], a complementary third finger portion 4|, and a complementary second finger portion 32. At the side the front small finger portion 35 continues into a complementary thumb portion 43.
The blank shown in Fig. 7 is intended to be folded on the lines EF and GE. Fourchelttes, such as the fourchette 45 illustrated in Fig. 8, are intended to be seamed to the open sides of the four fingers to give depth to these fingers. The usual piecettes, not shown on the drawing, are intended to be seamed between the bottom ends of adjacent fourchettes 45. The back panel is provided with ornamental stitches 46. The free edge portions of the front portions and 35 are seamed togetheralong the sides indicated by identical small letters ranging from a to f inclusive. It is believed that the complete seaming together of the glove will be readily understood from this description.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the rightis reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
