UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFICE.
WILLIAM A. WITT, OF NORRIS FORK, MISSOURI.
ANlMAL-TETH ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent N0. 227,666, dated May 18, 1880.
7 Application filed February 13, 1880.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. WI'IT, of Norris Fork, in the county of Henry and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Animal-Tethers and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
This invention relates to tethers for horses and cattle; and it consists in certain improvements in the construction of the same, which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings hereto annexed, A A represent two standards or tripods, the legs of which, B B, are connected by suitable plates or braces, as shown.
The front plates or braces, O, of the standards A are provided with hooks D, between which a cord or wire, E, is stretched.
F is an eye or link sliding upon saidwire and provided with a swiveled link, G, through which passes a rope or cord, H, to one end of which the animal is secured, while to the other end a suitable counter-weight, I, is attached.
J J are plates secured upon rope or wire E at suitable distances from the standards AA,
for the purpose of limiting the sliding move- 5 ment of the eye I Wedges K K, or set-screws, or any other suitable devices may be employed for the purpose of securing the plates J in position.
The rear leg of each of the standards A is 40 provided with a rearwardly-projecting lug, L, having perforations, through which stakes M may be driven to secure the said standards in position.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings hereto annexed, the operation of my invention will be readily understood. It is simple, inexpensive, durable, and easily removed from place to place, and, owing to its peculiar construction, the legs of horses or cattle cannot become tangled in the tethering-rope.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States As an improvement in tethers, the combination of the standards A A, the rear legs of which are provided with lugs L, rope E, sliding eye F, having swiveled link Gr, rope H, and counter-weight I, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two'witnesses. Y
WILLIAM ASEL WITT.
