HANGING LAMP.
SPECIFICATION formingpart Of Letters Patent No. 226,732, dated April 20, 1880.
Application filed August 7, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OTTO F. EIGHBERG, of New York city, State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Hanging Lamps,
of which the following is a specification.
The invention consists in combining with a cup perforated at the top, and forming an extension of the tube, an adjustable extension having an interior depending flange and exterior absorbent.
In the drawings, Figure l is a vertical longitudinal section of a single, and Fig. 2 of a double or two-burner chandelier.
A A are oil-reservoirs, whose ends a connect with upright tube B, while the raised ends I) are suspended by chains. They are filled through the plugged and packed tubes 0 d e.
The oil receptacle or tube B is provided with an extension, 0, having a threaded bushing,
20 f, to receive the lamp-top, and a flange, g, to
prevent the oil from flowing upward when the lamp swings. Surrounding this extension is a foraminated funnel-shaped cup, D, and on the inside of said cup a packing-sleeve, h, whereby is prevented. the escape or running 2 5 down ofoil on the side of the lamp. The oil will be intercepted by cup D and absorbed by the packing. A current of air will be constantly passing through the holes of cup and over the packing, so as to produce evaporation and prevent the packing from becoming saturated with oil.
