One object ofv the vinvention is vthe provision in a device-ofthis characterof a movable support'for the 'articles to be displayed together with vmeans for moving the support into display position and retaining it therein upon opening of the holder.
Another object of the invention is the provision of asimple form of display support and novel means for moving the same into display position on opening the holder and retaining it inA such a position while the holder is open, as well as'meansior insuring its movement into its retracted position without disarranging the articles carried thereby'in closing the holder.
Another object of thel invention is the provision cfa display holder having a cover and an improvedmounting therefor including means for'supporting the cover in `such a manner that itmay be `readily moved-to open or closed position.
A further object of the invention is the provision in a display holder of oppositely positioned supports and a cover member located therebetween'and provided with'means for pivotally mounting the ycover onsaid supports at longitudinally' opposed-points whereby the cover may be moved outwardly and upwardly relative to the supports to expose to View Ythe articles to be displayed. i
A further-object of the invention is the pro-- vision of a display member carried by a base and mounted iii-'edge connected relation therewith together with a pivoted cover having arl-inwardly projecting flange engageable with thedisplay 4o.
member to raise or lower the same.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a pivotally supported cover member provided with an Yinwardly directed ilange and a pivotally mounted display member engageable with the iiange upon movement of the cover member about its Lpivot line, together with interV engaging means carried by the flange and display member. for limiting the pivotal movement of the cover member.
Other objeots'and'advantages of the invention relate to various improved details of construction and novel arrangements of the parts as will be more fully set forth in the detailed description to follow.
Referring to theV drawing?y 1 is. a front'elevationalviewrof" the dis-v play holder showing Athe .cover "memberdn-"its raisedpositon and the display member in raised inclined relation with the' base.'
Fig-2 is a transverse sectional' viewthroughthe display holder, taken substantially along'thelinew 2-2 Aof Fig. 1 and showing 'thecover and display member in open or raised` position relative -to thebase, and,
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view through"LAL the display holder in the'closedr-'positiontothe The base I may beformed of any appropriatev material and mayor may not vbe provided with-'- a fabric or other ilexible coveringof an orna-'l mental character to provide a desired-'display ibackground for the articles to be shown;
A pair'of. fixed supports 3 and `lljwhich may 1 be of similar shape, are carried bytleba'se and located in spaced relation with each other to" providelmeans for pivotally supporting a cover member 5 between the'supports 3 and '4 so as to' permit the cover member being moved into openv or closed position relative to the base I.' The cover member 5 maybe rectangular in outline:rv
or otherwise shaped to'correspond with the shape ofthe base I or appropriate for use in connection therewith. ThecoverV member 5 comprises a to'p" 6 provided with sideand end walls 1 'and.8 re'1 spectively extending outwardlyQfrom'th'e'topl torenclose an. .area of the4 base I when the cover member is yin its' closed position'.4
A :brace 9 is located within the -cover"5 and'. positioned at or adjacent to one of the side walls thereof. tointeroonnect portions of opposed end wallsand yprovide meansv for supporting pivot bars .IG rotatablymounted in the xed supports" 3 and 4 insuch a manner that the pivot barsfv are in longitudinally aligned relation vwith each other vand together provide a pivotalsupport "for the cover member 5.
A display-member I2,;'which'may.,beof'a shape corresponding substantially with the contourof` the' cover 5 and of a suitablesize to"be"received" within the cover, has one edge portion I4 hinged to the base in any suitable manner, as by means of a flexible hinge connection I5 of fabric or tioned flange-2li when similar ornamental material such as may be adapted to provide an ornamental covering I6 for the exposed face of the display member I2. The hinge connection I is such Ias to permit pivotal movement of the display member I2 relative to the base I substantially along the edge I4 of the display member I2 which is in substantial contact with the base. VIf desired, any suitable form of hinge means other than the fabric shown may be provided for the display member I2, in
Y which case the display `member I2 may be provided with a fabric or other covering or ornamentation -adapted to serve as a suitable background for displaying'articles of jewelry or. the like, and, in either case, the display member may carry any suitable article holding member or members. I8 as may be desired for supportnig the articles to be shown.
A portion of one side wall ber is yprovided with an angularly flange extending inwardly therefrom and having'a part ther'eofnormallyV extending .beneath the-free edge 2! of the display member I2 to move the display member I2 into its raised inclined display position upon moving the cover member about its pivotal axis into its open position-'relativeto'the base I.
A hook 22 is shown as carried by the free edge 2| of the display member I2, and is adapted to engage the free edge 23 of the angularly posithe cover member is raised suiicientlyV toexpose fully the display member I2 and articles carried thereby, so that it may serve as aV stop for limiting the pivotal movement of the cover member relative to the baseA I. The parts may be so proportioned that engagement of the hook 22 with the edge of the angular flange 2l! occurs when the cover member 5 has .been moved into or slightly beyond a position substantially vertical with respect to the base ,'I, the display member I2 by is prevented.
The line of pivotal support for the cover member 5 is preferably located Eat or adjacent to one side wall of .the cover member and adjacent to theitop portion 6 thereof to permit raising and lowering thev cover member by movement of the same faboutthe axis of its pivotal support, and provide a construction wherein the free edges of the'. side and4v end walls 1 and 8 are positioned closely adjacent to the'face of the base i in the lowered 'position of the lcover member. IIvhe cover member v5 serves thus as a substantially I of the cover mem- 4complete closure for that portion of the base located within the side and end walls of the cover member and encloses the display member I2 and the articles carried thereby.
The transverse extent of the angular flange 2B carried by one side wall of the cover member may be such as to raise the free edge 2l of the display member .to a height suitable for locating the display member I2 at any desired angle with Vthe base Ifwithin such limits as may be determined by kthewidth of the side and end walls 1 and f8, whereby the display member may be p0- sitioned'in any one of several angular positions relativerto the. base in theY raised location of the display member; Y
