Description
T. J. HUBBARD.
Thrashing Hail.
I Patented Jany 11, 1859.
Jam 0% UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS J. HUBBARD, OF HAMILTON, NEW YORK.
FLAIL- GAP.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 22,557, dated January 11, 1859.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOS. J. HUBBARD, of Hamilton, in the county of Madison, in the State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Mode of Constructing Metallic Flail Caps or Swivels; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in constructing flail caps of casting metals, in a new and improved form in two equal and separate parts A, A, with a crescent tongue or lip B in each part, so as when adjusted to the flail staff C by carving a groove D to fit or match the said lip or tongue, and fastening it thereto with a wire or string, as seen at E, completes the cap.
A common flail cap, or those of any description, known to be in use, is a farming implement, often out of repair and not easily constructed by farmers, causing much inconvenience and loss of time.
To enable others to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
I construct my flail cap of cast iron, or brass, or of any other casting metals, in two equal parts, or longitudinal sections as shown at r A, in the accompanying drawing, with a crescent tongue or lip formed in the interior of each section as shown at B, so as when adjusted to the stafl C, with the groove, shown at D, previously carved thereon to match the said tongue or lip, and fastened with a wire or string as shown at E makes a perfect and durable cap.
What I claim as my'invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The construction of flail caps of casting metals in separate parts or sections, with the lip or crescent tongue formed upon the interior thereon as above described.
THOS. J. HUBBARD Attest:
