Description

K. H. E HYBY. Lamp-Burner.
NOQ225,524. Patnfed Mar. 16 1ss0.
IJNITED STATES PA'IENT OFFICE,
KRISTIAN H. E. HYBY, OF ODENSE, DENMARK.
LAMP-BURNER.
SPEGIFICATION' forming part of Letters Patent No. 225,524, dated Mareh 16, 1880. Applcation filed J anuary 19, 1880.
T0 all whom it mory concern:
Be itknown that I, KRISTIAN E. E. HYBY, of the city of Odense, in the Kingdom of Denmark, ha"e invented eertai n new and useful In1 provements in Lamp-Burners and I do l1ereby declare tl1at the following is a full, clear, and exact deseription of theinvention, whioh will enable others skilled in the art to whieh it appertains to make and use the Same, referenee being had to the aeeompanying drawings, whichform a part of this speeification.
My nventio1 bas relation to that elass of lampburners (for petroleum and other lamps that require a ehimney and globe) whiol1 are provided with means for raising or elevating the oollar whieh supports the ehin1ney and globe above the wiek, so that a match may be applied to this for the purpose of igntion without having to remove the globe and chimney and it oonsistsin the improvementshere inafter desoribed, and partieularly pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings hereto annexed, Figure 1 is a vertioal section of my improved burner. Fig. 2 is a similar view, showing the ohinaneyeollar and globe bolder or gallery in their elevated position, ready for the ignition of the wiek. Fig. 3 is a perspeetive view of the spurwheel and spring-eateh for operating the rackbar and Fig. 4: is a similar view of the sliding sleeve with its ohimney-collar and raak-bar,
the globe-gallery haring been removed.
A is the wiek-tube, Whioh may be of any approved eonstruetion, and in the present illustration of my iuvention is bifureated at its lower end, to be used with a flat wiek, whiel1 is bent in its passage through the wiek-tube into a eylindrioal shape by its two edges meeting, in like manner to the wiek of an Argand burner.
B is the wiek-raising wheel, and 0 is the burner basket, whieh is sorewed upon the lower end of the wiek-tube above its collar b, as olearly showu in the drawings. 'Ihis basket O has an annular flange er eollar, c, at its upper end, surrounding the oentral wiek-tube, whieh is provided with a laterally-projeeting tube or sleeve, d, through whieh is inserted the shaft of the spur-wheel D.
E is a spring, the lower end of whieh is secured in the lower inner end of the basket G,
while its upper end has a projeetion or arm, e, whieh extends up to one side of the spur-wheel D, and is provided at its upper end with an inward-projeotn g lip, f. Ihis part e f of spring E impinges upon the raek-guide g, wbioh is attaehed to and projeets inward from the upper eollar, 0, of the basket O.
F is a cylindrioal sleeve, whieh is inserted upon another stationary eylindrieal sleeve, A, that surrounds the wiek-tube A, and slides thereon.
Upon the upper part of slee"e F are aflxed the eoneentro ehimneyeollar H and. globegallery I, and the said sleex*e F is further providecl with the raak-bar Gr, whieh meshes with spurwheel D.
Back-bar G is guided by the inWardly-projeeting guide piece or arm g, referenee to whieh has already been made, and has a stop er eateh, h, at its lower end.
Tl1e lip fof spring E 6 bears against the front sicle of the raak-bar with sufiieient rie tien to support sleeve F, with the ol1imney and globe, in its elevated position, as shown in Fig. 2, and performs the further office or funo tien of preventing the raak-bar frorn being raised toohigh or out of gear with its spur wheel by hearing against the stop hat the lower end of the bar. spring E serves a-s ajournal or support for the inner end of the shaft of the spur-wheel D, whieh works in a reeess made in the upper end of the spring, as shown more olearly in Fig. 2.
The stationary eylindrieal sleeve A, whiel1 surrounds the wiek-tube, as well as the sliding sleeve F, are made of skeleton-work, or eonstrueted with suitable openings to admit a suffieiency of atmospherie air to the inner part of the burner where oombustion takes plaee, and the ehimneycollar H has a dowwardlyprojectiu'g annular flange, k, whieh, when the eollar with its sleeve is in its depressed or lowered position, will fit snugly into eol lar 0 of the basket O.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim and desire t secure by Letters Patent of the United States In a lamp-burner of the desoribed elass, the eombination of the basket 0, having oollar 0, spurwleel D, guide 9, and spring E, provided Besides this, the top of with the arm eand lip f, stationary sleeve A, In testimony whereof I have signed mj encircliug the wiek-tube A, and sliding sleeve name to the foregoing specificaton in the F, carrying the chimney-collar H and globe presence of two subscribing witnesses.
.gallery I, and provded with the raak-bar G, KRISTIAN HANSEN ENGERMAND HYBY. 5 havng stop h, a11 constructed and combined Witnesses:
t0 operate substantially in the manner and for FR. WOLFF,
the purpose herein shown and set forlzh. V. SCHWANER.
