Description

UNITED 'rn'rns PATENT GFFIcn WILLIAM S. BOYD, 3D, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN,TINNERS F lRE-POTS,
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 222,859, dated December 23, 1879; application filed November 10, 1879. y
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM S. BOYD, 3d, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tinners Fire-Pots; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of my invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in tinuers tire-pots; and it consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth, and pointed out by the claims.
In the annexed drawings, which fully il' lustrate my invention, Figure 1 is a side represent the hinges by which the top is attached to the part A.
. To the front of the part A is secured an apron, I, as shown, under which are the openings 6, provided with sliding doors h. These sliding doors have their bases bent upward V- shaped, whereby the iron can easily be inserted by pressing against the base of the door. At the base of the openings 1, and inclining therefrom downward toward the flame, are aprons 0, on which the iron rests.
O is a shield at the back of the case A, against which the pointof the iron rests, and which prevents the same from going beyond the flame. E represents an air-chamber formed in the base of the case A, in which is located the wick-chamber E.
The wick-tubes at, having the wicks a, project up through openings in the upper plate of the air-chamber.
12 represents a shaft passing through the wick-chamber E, and having thereona spurwheel, b, which gears .withanother spur-wheel, c, on a shaft, q. Both thesefwheels impinge against a wick, and by turning the shaft 10 the two wicks may be raised or lowered at the same time, as shown.
K is an opening in the outer case, communicating with a pipe, B, through which air ,is drawn into the air-chamber E. F represents the reservoir which forms the base of the device, which is provided with an opening in its top to allow the wicks to enter, and is also provided with flanges f, on which the wickchamber E rests. c 0 represent spring-latches, which hold the top, case, and reservoir together when in use. It is obvious that the apron I may be placed inside the case and perform its functions equally well.
J represents a sliding door of mica or other transparent material, to enable the operator to light the device at will.
The upper or top plate of the air-chamber is movable, and can be taken out and replaced at will.
By this arrangement a fire-pot is produced that can be used in the open air without any inconvenience, and any number of coppers or irons can be heated by lncreasing the length of the device and the number of wicks,
, Ste.
It is cheaply and easily constructed, and
not liable to get out of repair.
The top G, as shown,.acts as a ventilator. By the use of this device, also, there is an immense saving in the cost of fuel. There is no waste,as the flame can be lighted and extinguished at will.
Having thus fully what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The case A, shield O, apron I, and openings Z, with sliding doors it, having V-shaped bottoms, and the apron 0, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The top Gr, having openings j, base or reservoir F, air-chamber E, wick-chamber E,
described my invention,
and case A, in combination with the hinges In testimony that I claim the foregoing as d d and. spring latches e e, substantially as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in 1 and for the purpose set forth. presence of two Witnesses. 3. The case A, opening K, tubes B, aircharnber E, wick-chamber E, Wick-tubes a, WM. S. BOYD, 3D. wicks a, in combination with the reservoir F 4 and top G,'hinged to the ease, the openings Z, Witnesses with sliding doors h, rest I, door J and shield GEO. G. TANNER, O, substantially as and for the purpose set EUGENE SGHOETJROFF. forth.
