OIL STOVE. No. 250,263. Patented Nov. 29,1881.
WITNESSES:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AUGUST KRAUSE, OF SALINA, KANSAS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO JOHN F. LAUTH AND JOSEPH N. SCHWARTZ, BOTH OF SAME PLACE.
OIL-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 250,263, dated November 29, 1881,
Application filed August 22, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUGUST KRAUSE, of Salina, in the county of Saline and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful 5 Improvements in Oil-Stoves, of which the-following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in that class of oil-stoves in which the chimneyflues for the lamps are formed in a water-res- 1o ervoir arranged over the lamps; and it consists in providing the water-reservoir with a series of flues, one for each wick-tube, and arranged each immediately over a wick-tube, and hinging the water-reservoir to the oil-re- I5 ceptacle along one of its shorter sides, the major axes of the \vicktubes and fines lying in the longitudinal direction of the water and oil reservoirs, and the flues fitting over the wicktubes, and the bottom face of the water-reser- 2o voir fitting tightly against the upper face of the air-chamber, whereby the water-reservoir can readily be swung over to trim the wicks or for other purposes, and can be as readily swung back and guided to its proper place with 2 the fines over the wick-tubes.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a sectional perspective -view of an oil-stove containing my improvement; and Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the stove as combined with a steamer, which is broken open to show the interior.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the base and oil-reservoir; a, the airchamber. 1) are the wick-tubes, the major axes of which are arranged in the longitudinal direction of the air-chamber a and 0, the wickraisers of an oil-stove of usual construction.
B is the water-reservoir, having tubes (1 formed in its middle portion, the major axes of which are arranged in the longitudinal direction of the water-reservoir and fit snugly over the wick-tubes, and provided at its upper side with a ring, g, that is adapted to re- -5 ceive the usual cooking attachments. The reservoir B is attachedto base A by a hinge, f,
and rests on the top plate of the air-chamber a, so that its chimney-tubes d lap over the wick-tubes b. There will be one or more tubes d, according to the number of burners, and it 0 will be seen that they are surrounded on all sides by the water contained in the reservoir. By this construction the heat at the ouside of the chimney-tubes will heat the water in the reservoir, and at the same time the convenient use of'the stove for cooking purposes is not hindered. A supply of hot water is thus always at hand, and is to be drawn for use through the cock 0, provided at the side of the reservoir.
In Fig. 2 a steamer, 0, is shown as 0011- nected by a pipe, h, with reservoir B, so as to receive the steam therefrom. The pipe h has a section, 1', of rubber tubing, to allow convenient separation. In this manner the convenience of the oil-stoveis greatly extended.
I am aware that the chimney-flue ofa lamp has heretofore been formed in a water-reservoir over the wick-tube of the lamp, and I therefore lay no claim, broadly, to such construction, my invention being confined to the precise constructionand compact arrangement of the parts, whereby the water can be readily heated, and at the same time the water-reservoir, with its chimneys or flues, be readily turned at one operation by means of its hinge to trim the wicks or for other purposes.
Having thus fully described my invention,
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In an oil-stove,.the combination, with the oil -reservoir A and airreservoir a secured thereto, and having thewick-tubes b, of the water-reservoir B, hinged to the top of the airchamber at f and provided with the fines or chimneys d, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
AUGUST KRAUSE.
