- G. D. MARGGRAP. CombinedCounter-stiffener andlnsole forRu bber-Boots.
= No'. 225,016. Patented Mar. 2, i880.
INYENTQR N PEI'ERS, PHOTO-UTHOGRAPNER WASfiINGTON D c UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GUSTAVUS D. MARGGRAF, OF CALEDONIA, OHIO.
COMBINED COUNTER-STIFFENER AND INSOLE FOR RUBBER BOOTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 225,016, dated March 2, 1880.
' Application filed October 16, 1879.
[[0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUSTAVUS D. MARG- GRAF,'Of Caledonia, in the county of Marion and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Counter-Stiifener and Insole for Rubber Boots; and 1 do hereby declare that thefollowing is afull, clear, and exact description of the invention,
which will enable others skilled in the art to and keeping thevfeet dry; in the use of such counter-stifteneras protection against the wear of the rubber; and in the combination and arrangement of the parts, as hereinafter more fully set forth and described.
In the drawings, Figure l is a view, in perspective, of my counter-stiifener; and Fig. 2 is also a perspective view, showing it in combination with the rubber boot.
My invention is designed chiefly as a means of preventing the wearing out of rubber boots from the inside by reason of the friction, press ure, or strain of the foot, which causes the boot frequently to crack or break, and also as a means of keeping the feet dry.
In order to obviate such wear of the boot I construct a counter-stiffener, A, of leather, raw or green hide, or other suitable material, provided with the tongue A and the cork insole B.
The insole, which is represented by the letter B, is made of cork, as aforesaid, and extends the length of the sole of the boot, and t is rigidly, secured thereto, and serves as an adjunct of the tongue A in stiffening and 5 bracing the boot, and aids in holding-the counter-stiifener in position.
The insole, in connection with the counter, also prevents the wear of the heel of the boot, and assists in absorbing the natural moisture of the foot, and hence is invaluable for rubber boots as a means of keeping the feetdry and warm.
What l-claim is- 1. As an improved article of manufacture, the combined counter-stiffener and insole, consisting of the stiffener A A and the cork insole B, all constructed substantially as shown and described.
2. A rubber boot provided with the combined counter stiffener and cork insole, as shown and described, for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
