1 Claim.

This invention relates toa display stand.

The object of the invention is theproduction of a display stand, by means of which various cloths, like silk, muslin, cotton and the like can be easily exhibited.

The second object of the invention is the production of a display stand with a front member having openings and a plate to the rear thereof to support a piece of material to be viewed through the openings of the front member, and means associated with the front member to detachably support the stand in operative position.

The third object of the invention is the production of a display stand for exhibiting various pieces of material in conjunction with the drawing of an object to which said material is adapted.

The fourth object of the invention is the production of a display stand, which is light in weight, cheap to manufacture and which does not require an expert to use.

The display stand comprises the front member 20, preferably of cardboard, and which has an opening designated in its entirety by the numeral 2|. The card opening is shown with the

22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 21, 28, 29, 30, 3|, 32, and 33, and the dividing member 34, forming the contour of a dress in this instance. A human head is indicated on the outer face of the front member 28 at 35, arms are indicated at 36, legs at 31 and 38, and a hat at 39. All of the representations coact with the opening 2|.

A rectangular opening 46 extends through the lower portion of the front member 20. To the rear face of the front member 28, are fastened by an adhesive, the longitudinal spacer strips 50. Each spacer strip 50 comprises the longitudinal upper portion having the inner edge 52 and the outer edge 53. The lower and wider portion of each spacer strip 50, is indicated with the inner edge 54. A horizontal supporting shoulder 57, is formed with each spacer strip 50 between its upper and lower portions. Through each of the spacer strips is formed a rectangular opening 60, for the slidable slat 62, with the knob 63 extending from the rear face thereof. The slat 62 has a legend indicated thereon which in this instance is John Doc 8; C0.

To each spacer strip 50' is: fastened the rear strip 10, which has integral-therewith and hinged thereto the tapered supporting leg 1|. Strips of silk Ila and Nb, are fastened to the rear strips 10, and to the legs H and function as hinges to strengthen the connection between each rear strip 10 and its leg II. It will be noted, see Fig. 2, that the lower end of the strip of silk Ha is spaced from the top end of the strip of silk Mb. The legs II are indicated in the drawing at right angles to the rear strips I0. In each tapered supporting leg 1|, is indicated an opening comprising the upper portion having the curved edge 12 and the vertical edge 13, also the lower portion with curved edge 14, and the horizontal supporting edge 15.

For each strip 19 is shown a locking flap 80, which is hinged to its adjacent rear strip as indicated at 8|. A portion 82 of each locking flap 88, is cut out from its adjacent rear strip 10, as indicated at Illa. The hinge portion 8| is strengthened by a hinge 8|a which comprises a piece of silk cloth or the like, and the members of the hinge Bla are fastened to each flap 88, and its adjacent rear strip 10. Each flap 89 is also in hinged connection with the projection 83, which extends from the adjacent rear strip 10.

Attention is called to the fact that each rear strip 10 has integral therewith the projection 83, and each flap is shown with its portion 82. The main portion of each flap 80 is hinged to the adjacent projection 83 and its portion 82 is hinged to its adjacent rear strip 18.

When the display stand is in operative position the supporting legs II, as indicated in the drawing, are at right angles to the rear strips 10 and each locking flap 80, is in a horizontal position as shown and located to bear on its adjacent supporting edge 15. A rectangular plate is indicated at 90, and has connected to its rear face a pair of knobs 9|. The plate 90 is slid-ably positioned between the front member 20 and the rear strips 10, see Fig. 4. The lower edge of the plate 90 is indicated at 92, and its side edges are indicated at 93. The lower edge 92, is adapted to bear on the supporting shoulders 51, and the side edges 93 bear against the inner edges 52 of the spacer strips 50.

A piece of cloth, silk or other material I80, is interposed between the plate 90 and the front member 20, and can be seen through the opening 2| of said front member 20. The piece of cloth I00, may be fastened to the plate 90, by thumb tack I02. The contour of the opening 2|, in the front member 20, makes a good display of the instead of slidable thereto.

Various modifications may be made in the invention and the present exemplification-is to be taken as illustrative and not limitative thereof.

Having described my invention, I claim:

In a display stand the combination of a front member havingopenings forthe display of a piece:of materiahlongitudinal spacer strips each with; a; horizontal supporting shoulder extending hinges 8la of silk, metallic hinges may be used.

from the rear face of the front member, a rear strip with a projection extending from each spacer strip, a rectangular plate slidably positioned between the front member and the rear strips, with the ends of its lower edge adapted to be supported on the shoulders of the spacer strips, a piece of material to be exhibited positioned opposite the rear face of the front mem her and carried by said plate, a supporting leg hinged on a vertical edge of each rear strip to swing ,rearwardly, each leg having an arcuate opening ending in a notch and a stop portion, and a flap hinged to each rear strip on a horizontal line and adapted to swing to a position normal to its strip and lying within said opening, each flap having a notch in its edge opposite the hinge, each opening adapted when its leg is swung outwardly to accommodate the outwardly swinging movement of the pivoted flap and receive the outer edge of said flap, said notches interengaging with each other, whereby the leg may be positively held inextendedposition; Y
