Fm. 2' Fm 3 Peter L. Lazarus Patented Dec. 15, 1925.
UNITED STATES PETER L. LAZARUS, OF WICHITA, KANSAS.
DISPLAY TREE.
Application filed September 22, 1924. Serial No. 739,185.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Pn'rnn L. LAZARUS, a
citizen of the United States, residing in Vichita, county of Sedgwick, and State of Kansas (whose post-office address is ichita, Kansas), have invented new and useful Improvements in a Display Tree, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this application.
My invention relates to a display tree.
The object of my invention is-to provide a tree that can be placed on counters or in show windows.
A further object of my invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive tree that is adapted to fold, with the leaves thereof lying flat together, and having means for holding the leaves in an extended position, firmly, for the purpose of displaying hats, or other articles of merchandise.
Referring to the drawings, Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the tree, unfolded to re ceive the goods to be exhibited. Fig. 2 is an edge View as it would appear when folded. Fig. 3 is a side view of one of the wings. Fig. 4- 1s a top View. Fig. 5 18 an end view, showing the inner edges hingedly atttached, and in the act of folding. Fig. (5 is an end View of the tree when folded. Fig. 7 is a detail of the base plate, and Fig. 8 is a detail of the top plate, both of which are adapted to hold the wings at right angles to each other. Fig. 9 is a detail of a disc member, adapted to seat on the arms of the tree.
Referring to the mechanism in detail, 1 is one of the wing members, having a plurality of arms 2, and the said arms being pointed and extending upward, function as supporting means on which to hang articles, being displayed. 3 is a disc member having a slot 4 centrally disposed, and the said slot being adapted to slide on the ends of the arms 2, the object of which is to provide a broader bearing for ladies hats having a fine fabric for the crown, and not being so liable to cause a sharp protrusion in the crown thereof, while the hats are on display. I would also have it understood that neckties or other similar articles may be hung on the curvature of the arms. 5 is a disc member having slots 6 centrally disposed and positioned at right angles and said slots adapted to engage downwardly projecting shoulders 7, on the base of the wing members, functioning as means to hold the four wings at right angles to each other. On the opposite or upper end of said wings is placed a disc member 8, having a plurality of radial slots as shown in Fig. 8, for bracing the members 1 at the top. of the tree.
lVhen the wings of the tree are opened it is adapted to set on the counters, floor or showcase as desired and will stand erect by reason of the legs 9. The said legs being recessed as at A, forms an offset to receive the thickness of the disc 5.
The wings of the tree are hingedly connected as at B in Fig. 5, the said connection may be made by a strip of cloth, pasted on the adjoining sides of the wings and bending at the intersecting edges. It will also be understood that in assembling the wings of a large tree, a plurality of metal hinges may be employed, the wings being made of metal, while in the smaller trees, the wings may be made of paste board or other sul stantial fibre, in which event, the gluing of a cloth, functioning as a hinge is preferable.
Other modifications may be employed as lie within the scope of the appended claim, and having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a display tree, a plurality of similar wings, ach having a straight vertical inner edge and an outer edge forming a series of alternate horn shaped arms and recesses, the vertical edges of said wings being hingedly connected, the bottom edge of each wingbeing cut at right angles to the verti cal edge, and each said lower edge having cut therein a recess forming a shoulder ad jacent the inner corner, in combination with a small fastening member having radial slots to receive the respective lower inner ends of the wings with the outer faces-of said shoulders in contact with the ends of said slots, a slotted member connecting the upper ends of said wings, and supporting members detachably connected to the outer ends of said horns.
PETER L. LAZARUs.
