Description

June 3, 1941. w. c. HANSE APPARATUS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF BROKEN FILAMENT YARN Filed Dec. 1, 1939 sive surface, mounted to freely revolve on the shaft l8. However in this form of the invention means are provided whereby the yarn l9 comprising continuous filaments may be subjected to a succession of abrading operations. The yarn is directed onto the rollers by the guide and is withdrawn by the guide 2! in a lateral direction extending at an angle to the path of travel of the yarn on the roller toward the larger end of the roller. The yarn is directed back onto the roller and is also withdrawn by the guide 22 in a lateral direction extending at an angle to the path of travel of the yarn on the roller toward the larger end of the roller. The position of each of the guides 2| and 22 may be varied by means not shown which would be obvious so that the extent of breaking of the filaments during each passage over the roller may be varied.
A further modification of the invention is shown in Figure 4. Each of the abrasive means shown in this figure is the same as the abrasive means shown in Figure 1. This modification comprises the tapered rollers 23 and 24 of abrasive material or having an abrasive surface, mounted to freely revolve on. the shafts 25 and 25. Yarn comprising continuous filaments is directed onto the roller 24 by the guide 21 and is withdrawn. from the roller by the guide 28 in a lateral direction extending at an angle to the path of travel of the yarn on the roller toward the larger end of the roller. The yarn is directed by the guide 28 to the roller 23 and is withdrawn by the guide 29 in a lateral direction extending at an angle to the path of travel of the yarn on the roller toward the larger end of the roller. The position of each of the guides 28 and 29 may be varied by means not shown which would be obvious so that the extent of breaking of the filaments during the passage .over each roller may be varied. Although only two rollers have been shown in this modification more rollers may be used if desired.
While preferred embodiments of the invention have been shown and described it is to be understood that changes and variations may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined by the claims.
