FIG.8
ATTEST: I INVENTDR. mfliw/wa N. PETERS FHoTo-umodmvnan, WASHlNGTON o c UNITED STATES PATENT' OFFICE.
WILLIAM F. MOODY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
CORNER-FASTENING FOR CONNECTING BED-BOTTOM FRAMES, dc.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 224,028, dated February 3, 1880.
Application filed August 13, 1879.
To all whom tt may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM F. MOODY, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Oorner-Fastenings for Connectingthe Frames of Bed-Bottoms and for Stretching the Fabric; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a portion of a side and end rail of a bed-bottom secured with my improved corner-fastener. Fig. 2 represents a side view of the long rail and a section of the fastener and cross-rail with fabric in position; Fig. 3, an end view of the fastening removed from the rails; Fig. 4, a transverse section through the fastener, a transverse section of the long rail, anda broken longitudinal section of the short rail, taken on line as, Fig. 2.
Figs. 5 and 7 are broken perspectives of the two-part end rail; Fig. 6, a plan view of the fastener removed from the other parts. 7 Fig. 8 is an enlarged representation of the nuts and bolts by which the fabric is stretched and the consists of a solid exterior flat side and'a solid interior end, 2, with flanges H I .projectinginward to form a socket between a skeleton-pare tition, 3, and the top of the casting, to recciie and support the two-part end rail, 0 C. The rail 0 O is held endwise in said socket by means of a tongue, 4, on the casting fitting into a groove, 5, in said end rail.
Projecting down from the lower plate of the casting A are flanges 6, which pass on to the sides of the side rail, -to guide the casting in its movement thereon and hold the frame square.
D represents a nut, which is provided with a shank, 7, which is tapped into the end rail, B, as shown by dotted lines, Fig. 2. In the lower end of this shank is cut a screw-thread to form a nut for screw G, which passes from the under side of the rail B into shank 7, to draw the shoulders 8 of nut D onto plate E, to clamp the casting fast to the frame.
An adjusting-bolt, F, is put through the end 2 of the casting and into nut D, and is turned in the ordinary manner to tighten the fabric 10, a slot, 11, in the plate E allowing the casting to have a proper movement for that purpose. Y
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- 1. The single casting formed with solid side A, solid end 2, partition 3, flanges H I, tongue 4., flanges 6 6, and recess between the partition 3 and the bottom plate, E, in combination with the adjustingbolt F, nut D, provided with shoulders 8, screw-bolt F, and screw G, as specified.
2. The nut D, provided with the shoulders 8, for clamping the plate E to the side rail, in combination with the screw-bolt F and the screw G, as specified and shown.
WILLIAM F. MOODY.
