Description

J. JOHNSON. Bale-Tie.
N 0. 223.142. Pate nted Dec. 30, I879.
WITNESSES INVENTOR ATTORNEY NFETERS, FHOTO-LITHBGRAPNER, WASHINGTON. D. C-
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JORDAN JOHNSON, OF HOPE, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF OF ,HIS RIGHT TO JOHN WILLIAMS, OF WILLIAMSBURG, TEXAS.
IM PROVEM ENT IN BALE-TIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 223,142, dated December 30, 1879; application filed September 29, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JORDAN JOHNSON, of Hope, in the county of Lavaca and State of Texas, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Bale-Ties; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a plan view of my improved bale-tie. Fig. 2 is an edge view thereof, and Fig. 3 is a detail.
This invention has relation to improvements in bale-ties; and it consists of a binder having on one end an oblique rigid bail, and on the other a series of alternating notches on opposite sides, with which the bail is adapted to engage and hold the ends of the binder together, as hereinafter shown and described.
In the annexed drawings the letterA designates a strap-iron binder of sufficient length to pass around a baled mass, and having near one end the notches 2', arranged at a uniform distance apart and in alternation on opposite edges. B designates a loop or bail having the downwardly-bent ends 61 rigidly secured to the opposite end of the strap-iron, and being of sufficient length to reach obliquely across the binder from one of the notches on one side of the notched end of the binder to the next a1- ternate notch on the opposite side of said end.
The operation is as follows: The end of the binder which encompasses the compressed mass is passed through the bail, and the binder drawn taut and the bail engaged in two of the notches, as before mentioned, by means of which the ends of the binder are securely fastened.
Having described myinvention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A bale-tie consisting of a binder, A, having on one end an oblique bail, B, provided with down wardly-bentends d, rigidly secured thereto, and on the other end a series of alternating notches, i, on opposite sides, which the bail is adapted to engage to secure the end of the binder, as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
JORDAN JOHNSON.
Witnesses:
JOHN WILLIAMS, LUKE GREEN.
