1 Claim.
The device forming the subject matter of this pplication is a slide mechanism for an extension table. The invention aims to provide novel means for mounting the rack and pinion with respect to the rails and the equalizing bar, to provide a device which will operate noiselessly, and to supply a structure in which working parts will be housed from view.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the present application appertains.
With the above and other objects in view, which will appearv as the description proceeds,
' the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Referring to the form shown in Figs. 1 to 6J the numeral I marks parts of an extension table top, and to the respective parts I are secured outer rails 2, provided upon their inner sides with longitudinal dovetailed grooves 3.
The numeral 4 designates an-equalizing slide, disposed between the outer rails 2 and slidable with respect thereto, the rails 2 and the equalizing slide 4 preferably being of solid wooden oonstruction. On its opposite sides, the equalizing slide 4 has longitudinal dovetailed -grooves 5, facing the grooves 3 of the rails 2, as Figs. 4 and section showing the de- 'are formed elongated seats section of the structure de-` 5 will make manifest. The grooves 5 define, in the equalizing slide 4, a reduced rib 6, disposed between the grooves.
In the rails 2, at the bases of the grooves 3,

In the grooves 3 of the rails 2 are secured first blocks I Il, which are shaped to be received slidably in l0 the grooves 5 of the equalizing slide 4, thereby to aid in connecting the member 4 slidably with the rails 2. The blocks I0 are disposed diagonally with respect to each other, as can be seen in Fig. 2. l 15 Second blocks II are secured in the grooves 5 of the equalizing slide 4, in diagonal relation to each other, the blocks II being slidably received in the grooves 3 of the rails 2, to .aid in connecting the equalizing slide 4, slidably, to the 20 rails 2. The blocks II have longitudinal recesses I2, disposed at the bases of the grooves 3 in the rails 2 and adapted to receive the ends of the racks 9, when the table is extended, as shown in Fig. 3.
A slot I4 is formed in the rib Ii of the equalizving slide 4, and in the slot I4 is received a pinion I5, extended into the grooves 5 of the equalizing slide, the pinion being mounted to rotate on a shaft or pin I6, mounted in the equalizing slide, 30 but extended only Ipart-way therethrough, so that the pin cannot drop out.
Noting Fig. 3 of the drawings, the table may be extended until the racks 9 come into contact with the blocks II. When the table is extended, 35 as shown in Fig. 3, the racks 9 are received in the recesses I2 of the stop blocks II. The construction is such, as shown in Fig. 3, that the racks 9 and the pinion I5 always are concealed.

'I'he grooves I1 45 are somewhat longer than the racks 9a, so that the pinion I 5a may be engaged with the racks 9a, and the blocks Illa and Ila be permitted to be received in the grooves with which they coact, in the assembling of the device.
