Description

ATTORNEYS Patented Dec. 16, 1879.
P. L. H. JUSTI & E. S. MAUD.
Lid for Organ-Pedals.
WiTNESSES UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
FREDERICK L; H. JUSTI AND EDIVARD S. MAUD, OF POOAHONTAS, ILL.
IMPROVEMENT IN LIDS FOR ORGAN-PEDALS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 222,709, dated December 16, 1879; application filed April 26, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that We, FRED. TJ- ILJUSTI and EDWARD S. MAUD, of Pocahontas, in the county of Bond, and in the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Organ-Lids for Covering Pedals; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of our invention consists in providing a hinged cover or lid over the pedals of an organ or melodeon, for the purpose of preventing dust and mice from passing up into the instrument, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to whichour invention appertains to make and use the same, we will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective "iew of an organ embodying our invention. Figs. 2 and 3 are detailed views of parts thereof.
A represents an organ having the pedals extending through an opening at the bottom of the case. To the front ofthe case is attached a frame or box, consisting of a bottom, B, two
inclined side pieces, 0 G, and a cross-bar, D, connecting the side pieces at their upper ends. This frame or box surrounds the openings in the organ-case through which the pedals project, and to the top cross-bar, D, is hinged a lid or cover, F, which has a strip, I, attached along its outer edge. This lid closes down over the pedals in such a manner that no dust or mice can get up into the instrumentthrough the front opening.
hen the organ is in use the lid F may be held in an elevated position by a hook, button, or other suitable means.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The frame or box B G D, with hinged lid or cover F, constructed substantially as described, and adapted for use on the case of an organ or similar instrument, for covering the pedals thereof, as set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing we have hereunto set our hands this 12th day of April, 1879.
FRED. LORENTZ HENRY J USTI. EDWARD SYLVESTER MAUD. Witnesses:
