COMBINATION cnovn AND BECEPTACLE Marjorie Danton, New York, N. Y.
Application January 26, 1939, Serial No. 252,904
5 Claims.
My invention relates to a combination glove and receptacle.
Handbags, pocketbooks and purses are frequently lost or stolen. To prevent such loss, to 5 frustrate snatching by thieves, as well as to notably augment the attractiveness of the ensemble of the smartly dressed woman, I have devised a unit 'in which there are incorporated two components, namely, a glove and a receptacle-the word glove being employed in its generic sense to include any type of covering for the forearm, and the word receptacle being similarly used to identify a handbag, pocketbook, or the like. The unit is worn on one arm with the dangling case at all times-readily accessible to the handy of the other arm. Manifold additional advantages will appear from a more comprehensive explication of the invention, taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a combined glov'e and handbag, the handbag being partly broken away to show interior pouch.
Fig. 2 is a similar view illustrating the bag partially detached.
Fig. 3 is a transverse section along lines 3-3 of Fig. 1.
' Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 1 depicting modifications, and
Fig. 5 is an elevation showing the parts detached.
Referring to the drawings, and more particularly Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive, 5 designates a lefthand glove having finger sheaths 6, thumb sheath 1, and a gauntlet-like extension 8 covering forearm 9. At a point on the underneath side of the extension is a strip l0 to the outer edge of which is afilxed one member of a zipper track I I, the complemental member l2 of the zipper track being carried by a strip i3 projecting vertically fromthe bag II. A pendant fly I5 serves to conceal the zipper track from view.
Bag I4 is unique in that it has pouches l8 and lI-one on each side. and each pouch is provided witha flap, as l8 and I9.
In Figs. 4 and 5, a modified form of the fastening means is illustrated. In lieu of the zipper. strips [0 and I3 are equipped with eyelets 20 and 2|, respectively, through which a lacing 22 may be threaded.
Fig. 4 also embodies another modification comprising the virtual elimination of hand portion of the glove in favor of a converging tongue 23, constructed as an integral part of the gauntlet and disposed forwardly over the back of the hand and the middle finger, to which latter it is anchored by the band 24.
It will thus be seen that I have consolidated into a single commodity two essentials of a womans every-day attire-a glove and a bag. 5 The bag yields at its point of connection with the glove-it dangles, so to speak, in contradistinction to being rigid. It comports itself gracefully with arm movements, and the unit, in its entirety, enhances the beauty and appearance of 10 a woman's ensemble. Regardless of the hand upon which the unit is worn, the contents of the bag are accessible to the other hand. Various schemes as to combinations of colors and materials will add still further to the esthetic appeal. And from a purely practical standpoint, the likelihood of misplacing ones bag, or having it stolen, is nil.
In its broader aspects, my invention comprehends the employment not only of the various means described, but of equivalent means for performing the recited functions. For example, the glove may be of the full finger, half-finger, or fingerless type; it may be manufactured for the right hand as well as the left hand; the connection between the glove and bag may involve means other than a zipper or a lacing arrangement; the components may be constructed of the same or different. materials, as may suit the particular occasion; and the design of the bag may be changed at will. It is desired to reserve the right to eflect such changes and modifications as may come fairly within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A covering for a forearm and a receptacle, said receptacle having an opening for. access thereto, and being secured above said opening longitudinally of the covering at a point beneath the forearm, the receptacle being otherwise unsecured to the covering.
2. A covering for aforearm and a receptacle, said receptacle having an opening for access thereto and being yieldably connected longitudinally of the covering at a point beneath and parallel with the forearm, the connection between the covering and the receptacle permitting a lateral swinging movement of the receptacle to either side of the forearm.
3. A covering for a forearm and a receptacle, said covering having a depending strip disposed longitudinally beneath the forearm, said receptacle including an opening for access thereto and provided with a complemental strip and a separable connection between the strips.
5. A covering for a forearm and a receptacle, 10 said covering having a depending stripdisposed longitudinally beneath the iorearm. said receptacle including openings for access thereto. a pair or flaps for said openings and a complemental strip, a separable connection between the strips. and said strips being flanked by a pair of pendant flies carried by said covering and having their outer tree ends resting upon the inner extremities of said flaps.
