Therefore, by angularly moving the said collar through thearm 25, the sleeve 20 will be correspondingly reciprocate-d toward and away from the outlet l2.
The advance and retraction of the sleeve is to occur simultaneously with variation in the fuel supplied to the burner, as from the valve ll. This valve may consist of any suitable fuelmetering' valve having a,' predetermined flow characteristic such as a straight line flow characteristic and conforming to the flow-characteristic of the burner. There is attached to the valve stem 40 of the valve an arm 4| angularly movable, as hereinafter set forth, to adjust the port area of the valve for regulating the rate of fuel supply by said valve to'the burner member. Moreover, in the fuel supply pipe 42 fromwhich the fuel is supplied to the valve from a suitable source (not shown), there is introduced means for maintaining a predetermined pressure of the fuel supplied. Thus, there may be included in the pipe-line ,42 a pressure-reducing valve 43 embodying an adjustable tensioning means such as the spring for setting the valve to supply the fuel at the desired pressure, which pressure may be adjusted by means of an externally projecting stud 45 extending within the valve body and bearing upon said spring.
As hereinbefore noted, the invention contemplates the simultaneous operation of both of the control means for the burner and valve, respectively, and in a manner such that uniform angular movement will be" impartojtto their respective arms 25 and H to maintain thereby a predetermined ratio between the atomizing medium supplied to the burner and the fuelsupplied thereto. Thus, the two said arms are linked together at like distances from their respective axes of oscillation as by means of a link 50; and provision is made for moving this link longitudinally as, for example, from a shaft 5| having suitable operating means such as a handle 52 for rocking the same. This shaft, through intermediateimech anism including a crank 53 secured'to vtlt shaft and a block 54 adjustable on the crank and secured to the free end of a rod 55, imparts a suitable throw to the said rod whose other end is adjustably secured in a block 58, swivelled to the link 50 connecting the arms 25 and 4|.

By this expedient, not only may the mixer apparatus for the two fluids be operated .to vary the total supply or output from any particular 5 point, while maintaining constant the ratio between the iiuids, but the initial supply of the one fluid may be set as desired to alter the characteristic of the discharge. Moreover, the actual range of control may be regulated as by the adjustment of the throw of the crank, as hereinbefore set forth.
I claim:
1. Apparatus of the nature set forth, coml5 element for fluid, having connection with a source of air and provided with an axial outlet, a movable sleeve mounted coaxially within the discharge element, its one end affording with the outlet an annular discharge area, means connect ed with the sleeve to adjust'the same longitudinally for changing the effective discharge area. a valve provided with a port communicating with; the discharge element and with a source of fluid fuelsupply, means to adjust the effective port area, means in advance of said valve for maintaining constant a predetermined pressure on the fuel supplied to the valve, and means connecting said two adjusting means to each other for imparting simultaneously thereto movement of like angular amount to change in the same sense the respective areas and the discharge of both fuel and air through the said outlet of the dis-' charge element.
