PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
The invention relates to a new and improved attachment for paint brushes, said attachment having a channel to' receive any paint which would otherwise run down the brush onto the 5 user's hand when painting overhead.
The object of the invention is to provide an exceptionally simple and inexpensive device of the class set forth, yet one. which will be eflicient, may be easily attached and detached, and will positively prevent any leakage between the attachment and the head of the brush which it surrounds.
With the foregoing in view, the invention resides in the novel subject matter hereinafter described and claimed, description being accomplished by reference to the accompanying drawing.
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a paint brush with the attachment applied thereto.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view.
A preferred construction has been illustrated and will be rather specifically described, with the understanding, however, that minor variations may be made within the scope of the invention as claimed.
A paint brush is shown having the usual handle 5, head 6 and bristles I. Surrounding the head 6 at any desired elevation, is a substantially rigid trough 8 having aninner wall 9, an outer wall '30 I0, and a bottom H, said trough being formed from pressed metal, Bakelite or any other preferred material.
An elastic band l2, preferably of rubber, tightly surrounds the brush head 6 and contacts tightly with the inner wall 9, the upper edge-portion I3 of said band being turned downwardly around theupper edge of said wall 9. The band I! is,
of course, normally smaller than the head 6 and must be stretched around the same, insuring tight 4i) sealing contact therewith to prevent any leakage of paint between the head and the band. The
downturned upper edge portion I! of this band forms an additional seal preventing any paint from enteringbetween the wall 9 and said band.
45 Also, the band I! contacts yieldably with the wall 9 and thus holds the entire attachment on the brush head.
From the foregoing taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be seen that novel and advantageous provision has been made 6 for carrying out the objects of the invention. The device may be easily and inexpensively manufactured, profitably sold at small cost, quickly and easily applied to a-paint brush, effectively used to catch all paint running down from the bristles 10 during overhead work, and may be quickly and easily detached and cleaned after use.
While preferred details have been shown, in-
cluding making of the inner wall 9 higher than the outer wall! In to facilitate downward turning 1 of the band A2 around the upper edge of said wall 9, it is to be understood that variations may be made within the scope of the invention as claimed, both as to structure and size.
I claim: 20
1. In combination with a paint brush; a substantially/ rigid trough surrounding the head of said brush and having an inner wall, an outer wall, and a 'bottom, and an elastic band surrounding said head between the same and said inner 25 wall, said elastic band contacting tightly with said head and wall to secure said trough to said head and having its upper edge portion turned downwardly around the upper edge of said inner wall to prevent paint from running downwardly between said inner wall and head,
2. In combination with a paint brush; a substantially rigid trough surrounding the head of said brush and having an inner wall, an outer wall, and a bottom, said inner wall being of 5 greater height than said outer wall, and an elastic band surrounding said head between the same and said inner wall, said elastic band contacting tightly with said head and wall to secure said trough to said head and having its upperedge o portion turned downwardly around the upper edge of said inner wall to prevent paint from running downwardly between said inner wall and head..
