Description

o. mKEBNB.
Neck-Yoke.
No. 219,736. Patented Sept. 16, 1879.V
`0AM /nv r UNITED *STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
CHARLES C. KEENE, OF MARENGO, IOWA.
.IMPROVE'M ENT IN NECK-YOKES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 219,136, dated September 16, 1879; application iled July 17, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, CHARLES C. KEENE, of
the town of Marengo, State of Iowa, have invented a new, and-."nseful Improvement in Neck-Yokes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawings, making a part of this specitcation, in which- Figure l is a perspective View of a neckyoke with my improvements attached. Fig. 2 is a section through w x of Fig. 1.
My invention relates to a novel and durable device for attaching vneck-yokes to vehicletongues; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, A represents the tongue or pole, and B the neck-yoke. On the end of tongue A is a tip.'or ferrule, a, cast with a shoulder or ange, al, and tapering slightly toward the end. At a suitable point between the shoulder al and the end of the ferrule is ahole, co2, fromA which protrudes an inclined button or stop, C, pivoted in a recess, c, on thounder side of the pole, and having underneath it a spring or equivalent device, .which presses it out.
To the neck-yoke B is attached a collar or sleeve, D, by means of a double swivel-joint, E, which enables the collar to swing in either direction.
When the neck-yoke is to be attached to the pole, the collar D is passed over the ferrule a, the inclined stop permitting the collar to pass over and depress it until it abuts against shoulder a1 and relieves stop C, which springs up into its normal position and prevents it from slipping back.
When it is desired to detach the neck-yoke from the tongue, button C is depressed with the thumb and the colla-r slipped oft'.
Having thus described my invent-ion, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,-
Ihe recessed pole A c, provided with the ferrule a, having a shoulder or abutment, al, and opening a2, and the spring stop or button C, in combination with the neck-yoke B, having a tapering collar or sleeve, D, connected thereto by a double swivel-joint, substantially as and for the purpose herein sho wn and described.
CHARLES C. KEENE.
