My invention relates to a coat construction. While the construction is particularly adapted to heavy duty coats, such as hunting coats, it may be used with other types of garments where 5 great flexibility of the arms of the wearer is desirable.

In heavy duty coats, such as hunting coats, the stiffness of the material from which the coats are made often binds the arms of the wearer. i

It is an object of my invention to provide a construction which will permit great flexibility in the use of the arms of the wearer of the coat, even when the coat is made of very stiff material.

It is a further object of the invention to provide a coat which is waterproof, and which is reinforced at the points of wear to prolong its useful life.

With these and other objects in view, which may be incident to my improvements, the invention consists in the parts and combinations to be hereinafter set forth and claimed, with the understanding that the several necessary elements comprising my invention may be varied in construction, proportions and arrangements, without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

In order to make my invention more clearly understood, I have shown in the accompanying drawing means for carrying the same into practical effect without limiting the improvements in their useful applications to the particular constructions which, for the purpose of explanation,

have been made the subject of illustration. In the drawing,

Referring to the drawing, I have shown a coat which is of the hunting coat type. It is provided with back panels I and front panels 2. The coat is provided with sleeves 3 which comprise upper sleeve panels 6 and lower sleeve panels 5.-

F93) The triangular hinge element 1 is also attached to the front panel 2 of the coat. This trian gular element permits great flexibility, which is highly desirable in coats of this type.

In order to further insure the flexibility of the sleeve and permit ready and free motion of the arm of the wearer, I have provided an elastic webbing 8 which is attached by stitching 9 to the inside of the back panel I. Attached by stitching It to the webbing 8 is a fabric strip II which is attached by stitching l2 .to both the upper and lower sleeve panels 4 and 5.

The coat is provided with a lining 13 which is not attached to the elastic webbing 8, nor to the v fabric strip II. ,This construction gives great flexibility for the elastic webbing 8 will give with the movements of the shoulder or arm of the wearer. The back panel I is cut out, as indicated at ll, andhemmed, as indicated at l5. This cut out arrangement provides for flexibility without wrinkling or binding of the back panel. The fabric strip ll insures'against water getting in direct contact with the elastic webbing 8 and tends to preserve the flexibility of the elastic webbing.

While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, Iwish it to be understood that I do not confine myself to the precise details of construction herein set forth by way of illustration, as it is apparent that many changes and variations may be made therein, by those skilled in the art, without departing from the spirit of the invention, or exceeding the scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. In a coat construction, a front coat panel, a back coat panel, an upper sleeve panel, a lower sleeve panel, a triangular hinge element inserted between the upper sleeve panel, the lower sleeve panel and the front coat panel, an elastic strip lying under the back panel, and an intermediate strip connecting one edge of the elastic strip to both the upper and lower sleeve panels, said elastic strip also having its opposite edge secured to the immediate side of the back panel "and being capable of being flexed by movements 05. the sleeve, said elastic strip also extending errclusively in a horizontal dimension between the sleeve and a line nearer the sleeve than the midportion of the back panel, said elastic strip being united at one edge to the inner side of the back panel and united at its opposite edge to the sleeve, that part of the back panel overlying the elastic strip being free of connection with the sleeve, said overlying part being attached only to the shoulder portion and said line above the 10 armpit portion.
