PAPER CHEST-PROTECTOR.

To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, EDWIN L. HENDERSON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Norwood, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper Chest-Protectors, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification.

My invention relates to paper vests or chest protectors and has as one of its objects the provision of a garment of this type made from paper which is thick and elastic thereby cooperating with a fabric lining in making a garment which is very warm and comparatively strong. It also relates to adjustable garments which will accommodate themselves to the size of almost any wearer, thereby permitting of the general sale and distribution of but one size and type of garment, and has as a further object the provision of an adjustable garment which will serve as a vest or chest protector.

These objects and other advantages to be noted I accomplish by that certain construction and arrangement of part to be hereinafter more specifically pointed out and claimed. f

he paper of which this article is to be made is made fairly thick and of a composition which may be crimped so as to have considerable elasticity and toughness. The

preferred method of cutting it is to provide two back sections 1 and 2, and two

front sections

3 and 4, with the back pieces provided with laterally. extending Wings 5 of considerable width. The front sections are preferably curved into a semi-oval shape, but need not have decided wings.

The pieces are united together with each other along the median line of the garment, and are cut out so that at their juncture they form a neck hole, which will fit over the head.

with the paper when stitching the section together and at the neck and along the margins of the garment the lining and paper are secured together with binding tape.

Due to the elasticity of the paper it has a tendency to be loose on the linin and Wlll give at the necessary points to accommodate any figure large or small, without undue strain, this strain being taken by the lining.

The wings on the back pieces are provided with tapes 7, which are used for securing the garment to the body. The head is thrust through the neck hole and the wings brought around from the back, and tied together! across the abdomen. Any sized chest will be covered by the garment with- 1n the limits of the contact of the outer edges of the wings with the outer edges of the front piece, and the point where the of the wings come in contact with each other across the abdomen. The garment can be arranged, therefore, to fit almost any figure. The arm holes 8 are formed by the bringing of the back piece around to the front, and the length of the garment is not a deterrent factor, since it is intended as an emergency garment, which can be kept in a small space, such as the pocket of an automobile door, a boat locker,

' or the like.

Due to the elastic and tough nature of the pi per, it will not get out of shape if folded up into a small bundle. I do not insist upon the exact construction of my paper garment since it may be varied within limits Which will be obvious to those skilled in the art without departing from the invention therein.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A garment for use as a vest. comprising a unitary front and back section, hav ing means for securing the one section in position overlapping at the sides the other section, said garment being formed from elastic paper and a fabric lining loose from the paper and a binding strip for the edges of the garment for binding the free edges of the paper and fabric together.
