JACKET Filed No v. 19,, 1924 v @Qmw 'W 7 WM 571711101114. ifafl Patented July 21, 1925.
UNITED STATES Matilda PATENT OFFICE.
SIMON A. KOLLINER, F STILLWATER, MINNESOTA, ASSIGNOR TO KOLLINER .86 NEW- MAN, 01? STILLWATER, MINNESOTA, A CORPORATION OF DELAWARE.
JACKET.
Application filed November 19, 19%. Serial No. 750,789.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SIMON A. KoLLINnR,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Stillwater, in the county of Washington and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Jackets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has for its object to reduce the cost and improve the construction of jackets or coats of the type sometimes designated as sleeved vests, and wherein leather is used as the main outer material. Usually, the bodies of these jackets have been made either substantially all of leather or substantially all of cloth. Good leather is much more expensive than good cloth. In the fronts and sleeves, which are subjected to the greatest wear, leather is the best material for jackets of the particular type under consideration, but I have found that heavy cloth, such as Mackinaw or the cloth from which Mackinaw coats are made, is a better material for the back of the coat body than leather. It is more flexible than leather and will more closelyadhere to the body and, for that reason, is warmer, and moreover, the use thereof in forming the back of the coat will reduce the cost thereof about thirty percent.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention, like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective looking at the back of the acket and showing the jacket opened out or turned approximately flat;
Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; and
3 is a vertical section taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
The cloth back of the coat body is indicated by the numeral & and the leather side and front-forming portions are indicated by the numeral 5. The sleeves 6, which are of leather, are preferably provided with the customary adjustable cuffs 7. The back is preferably made up of three sections, towit:
two lower sections and atop section con nected by suitable seams. The back, the leather side and front portions and sleeves, are connected by the customary seams. The leather sections 5 may be made up of several pieces, if desired. The use of smaller pieces sewed together to make up the cloth back and leather side and front-forming portions makes it an easy matter to give the garment the proper form and, moreover, enables the smaller pieces to be used and reduces the cost of the garment.
The collar proper, indicated by the numeral 8, is preferably made up of two-ply cloth and it is stitched directly to a leather collar band 9, which, in turn, is stitched to the cloth back and leather front and side portions. This leather band 9 affords a strong leather tie between the two leather portions and it is preferably provided at one end with a button 10 and at its other end with a cooperating buttonhole 11. The numeral 12 indicates a belt strap, preferably of cloth, attached at its ends to the leather portions 5, loosely spanning the cloth back a and provided with cooperating abutments 13.
The bodyof the garment is provided with a cloth lining 14: which may be made up of any desirable number of sections, preferably stitched to a leather band 9 and to the lower and front flat edges of the garment. Also, the leather collar band 9 is reinforced by a cloth band 9 stitched thereto, as best shown in Fig. 3.
This improved garment has been commercially made and found to be highly satisfactory. in the several particulars heretofore noted.
lVhat I claim is:
A jacket, the body of which is made up of a cloth back and leather side and frontforming portions connected by suitable seams, the said garment having a leather collar band stitched to the upper portions of said cloth back and leather side and front-forming portions and connecting the latter across the top of said cloth back, and a cloth collar stitched to the upper portion of said leather collar band.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
SIMON A. KOLLINER.
