Application May 17, 1939, Serial No. 274,198
7 Claims.
My invention relates to improvements in a hair-cutting attachment for combs, wherein a plate is provided with an integrally formed hook on each end thereof to engage selected teeth on Q a comb, and also with'a hingedly mounted hook for engaging the back of the comb to prevent the first hooks from sliding longitudinally from off of the said teeth, said plate being also provided with integrally formed lugs for positively 10 holding a safety razor blade in proper position against the teeth of said comb, said plate being further provided with a pivotally mounted latch for detachably holding said razor blade on the said lugs.
The primary object of the present invention is to provide anew and improved hair-cutting attachment for combs.
Another object is to provide a new and improved attachment of the character described 20 having greatly simplified and improved means for detachably attaching the same to a comb.
A further object is to provide a device of the type described, having improved means for positively and rigidly engaging and holding a safety razor blade in proper cutting position relatively to the comb.
A still further object is to provide, in combination with a hair-cutting attachment for combs, improved means for detachably locking said razor blade in proper position for operating in conjunction with the teeth of a comb for cutting or trimming hair.
A still further object is to provide a new and improved hair-cutting attachment fora comb, to provide a device by means of which an operator may cut, trim or shape his own hair by the simple and convenient expedient of combing his hair with a comb having my improved device attached thereto.
I accomplish these and other objects by means of the improved device disclosed in the drawing forming a part of the present application, and in which- Fig. 1 is an elevation of one end of a comb with my improved device attached thereto;
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1, in the direction indicated;
Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of the device removed from the comb; and
Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view, on an enlarged scale, taken on line 44 of Fig. 1, in the direction indicated.
Referring to the drawing: v
The numeral l is used to designate a comb having the usual back 2 and teeth 3.
The improved device consists of a plate or member 4 having a lateral, longitudinally disposed flange 6 at the upper edge thereof and arranged to normally rest against one side surface of the back 2 of the comb l in order to hold said plate 4 inclined relatively to said comb l. A hook I is integrally formed on each end of the plate 4, each hook I engaging a selected tooth 3 of the comb I to hold said plate 4 against said comb in said inclined position, as disclosed in Figs. 2 and 4 of the drawing. A hook 8 is hingedly connected to the free edge of the lateral flange 6 of the plate 4 and may be moved to engage the back 2 of the comb I to prevent the hooks 1 from sliding off the teeth 3 longitudii5 nally.
The inner side of the plate 4 is provided with integrally formed lugs 9 arranged to engage the apertures of any standard apertured safety razor blade l0 and hold the same with one cutting edge receded and in spaced relation with the edge ll of the plate 4 opposite the edge having the lateral flange 6, and inclined against the teeth 3 of the comb I, said edge ll thereby operating as a guard for said cutting edge.
A suitable latch l2 has I one end pivotally mounted, as at l4, upon the inner face of the member or plate 4, and rests upon the blade ID to hold the same in engaging relation with the lugs 9, the free end of said latch l2 being engaged and held by a turned over flap l6 formed integrally with the plate 4. The latch I2 may be swung on its pivot l4 to release the blade l0 so that said blade may be removed from the rigid lugs 9 and a new blade l0 substituted when required.
When the blade I0 is held in operative positlon by the lugs 9 and latch l2, and the plate 4 is held by the hooks l and 8 to the comb I, then one cutting edge of said blade ID will readily 0 cut and thereby trim or shape hair passing between the teeth 3 of the comb I, when an operator passes said comb as in the ordinary process of combing the hair. With practice, an operator may quickly learn to tilt the comb to regulate the length of the required cut. Therefore, it is obvious, that by means of my improved attachment for a comb, an operator mayvery easily, economically and conveniently cut, trim or shape his own hair by attaching my device to his comb.
Having described my invention, I claim:
1. A hair-cutting attachmentv for a comb, fcomprising a plate having hooks formed on the ends thereof for engaging selected teeth to hold 5 said attachment on said comb; and a latch mounted on said plate for holding a razor blade on said plate with one cutting edge of said blade against the teeth of said comb.
2. A hair-cutting attachment for a comb, comprising a plate having hooks formed on the ends thereof for engagingteeth on a comb to hold said plate on said comb; a latch pivotally mounted on said plate to detachably hold a razor blade thereon and adjacent to said comb; and means for preventing movement of said plate and hooks longitudinally off of said teeth.
3. A hair-cutting attachment for a comb, comprising a plate having a hook formed on each end thereof to engage the teeth of a comb to hold said plate on said comb; lugs formed on said plate for positioning a safety razor blade thereon; and a latch pivotally mounted on said plate for holding a blade on said lugs.
4. A hair-cutting attachment for a comb, comprising a plate having a lateral flange on one edge thereof to hold said plate inclined to the teeth of a comb, and a hook formed integrally on each end of said plate to engage teeth of a comb to hold said plate thereagainst, said plate also having integrally formed lugs for engaging and holdingan apertured safety razor blade on said plate with one edge of said blade receded in spaced relation to the opposite edge of said plate from the lateral flange thereon; and a latch pivotally mounted on said plate to engage and detachably hold a safety razor blade on said lugs and plate.
5. A hair-cutting attachment for a comb, comprising a plate having a lateral flange on one edge thereof to hold said plate inclined to the teeth of a comb, and a hook formed integrally on each end of said plate to engage teeth of a comb to hold said plate thereagainst, said plate also having integrally formed lugs for engaging and holding an apertured safety razor blade on said plate and with one edge of said blade receded in spaced relation to the opposite edge of said plate from said lateral flange thereon, a latch pivotally 45 mounted on said plate to engage and detachably hold a safety razor blade on said lugs and plate; and means for engaging the back of said comb to prevent said hooks from moving longitudinally oflf of said teeth.
6. A hair-cutting attachment for a comb, comprising a plate having a lateral flange on one edge thereof to hold said plate inclined to the teeth of a comb, a hook integrally formed on each end of said plate to engage teeth on said comb to hold said plate on said comb, said plate being also provided with integrally formed lugs for engaging and holding an apertured safety razor blade on said plate with one edge of said blade receded within an edge of said plate opposite the flange thereon; a latch pivotally mounted ,on said plate to engage and detachably hold a safety razor blade on said lugs; means for holding said latch, on said blade; and a hook hingedly connected to the edge of said lateral flange for engaging the back of a comb to prevent longitudinal movement of said first mentioned hooks longitudinally oil of the free ends of said. teeth.
'7. A hair-cutting attachment for a comb, comprising a plate having a lateral flange on one edge thereof to rest against one side of the back of a comb and hold said plate inclined to the teeth thereof, said plate having a. hook integrally formed on each end thereof to engage said teeth to hold said plate against said comb and teeth thereon, and also provided with integrally formed lugs to engage and position an apertured safety razor blade on said plate with one cutting edge of said blade in receded spaced relation to the edge of said plate opposite the flanged edge of said plate; a latch pivotally mounted on said plate for holding a blade on said lugs; means formed on said plate for engaging said latch to lock said blade on said lugs; and a hook hingedly cnnected to the lateral flange and arranged to engage the back of a comb on which said attachment is mounted, to prevent the flrst mentioned hooks from moving longitudinally off of the free ends of said teeth.
