Description

April 24, 1962 F. J. GARVEY ELECTRIC RAZOR HAIR CUTTING ATTACHMENT Filed June 10, 1959 31 32 33 m A if INVEN TOR. Hawk :1 64mm! Y.
ATTORNEX United tates Patent 3,030,707 ELECTRIC RAZOR HAIR CUTTHNG ATTACHMENT Frank J. Garvey, 3107 Jay Ave, Sioux City, Iowa Filed June 10, 1959, Ser. No. 819,508 1 Claim. (Cl. 30-90) This invention pertains to a hair cutting attachment for an electric razor.
An object of this invention is to provide a hair cutting attachment which may be readily attached to an electric razor to guide the razor for accurately guiding th hair into the cutters of the electric razor.
Another object is to provide a hair cutting attachment for an electric razor to facilitate performing an accurate and neat hair cutting job without special skill or experience being required of the operator.
Still another object is to provide a hair cutting attachment having certain fundamental structural features which make it particularly adapted for mounting on an electric razor.
Further features and advantages of this invention will appear from a detailed description of the drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a side elevation of the hair cutting attachment incorporating the features of this invention.
FIG. 2. is an end elevation of the attachment shown in FIG. 1.
FIG. 3 is a section on the line 33 of FIG. 1.
FIG. 4 is a view showing the device of FIGS. 1, 2 and 3 in use cutting hair.
FIG. 5 is a side elevation of a modification of the hair cutting attachment incorporating the features of this in vention.
FIG. 6 is an end elevation of the attachment shown in FIG. 5.
FIG. 7 is a section on the line 77 of FIG. 5.
FIG. 8 is a view showing the device of FIGS. 5, 6 and 7 in use cutting hair.
As an example of one embodiment of this invention there is shown an electric razor 10 having the body 11 to which are fixed the usual cutting grids 12 in which are mounted the movable cutter knives 13. The hair cutting attachment 14, FIG. 3, has two parallel base members 15 and 16 having beveled surfaces which engage the mating beveled surfaces 18 of the cutting grids 12. Upstanding from the base members 15 and :16 immediately above the base members 15 and 16 are the lug portions 19 each of which have abutment surfaces engaging the surfaces 21 on the cutting grids 12 adjacent the slots 22 of said grids. Bridging the upper edges of the lug portions 19 are a series of laterally spaced parallel comb elements 23 extending substantially parallel to the direction of movement of the electric razor as manipulated during the hair cutting operation. Each of the comb elements 23 have inner surfaces 24 spaced from and bridging the slots 22 of the cutting grids 12 while the outer edges 25 of the comb elements 23 are adapted to engage the skin surface 26 as the device is manipulated in hair cutting as shown in FIG. 4. Projecting pointed ends 27 are formed on the outer ends of the comb elements 23 adjacent the skin contacting surfaces 25 to facilitate guiding of the hair 28 in between the comb elements 23 and into the slots 22 of the electric razor cutters.
In the arrangement shown in FIGS. 1, 2, 3 and 4, the outer edges 25 extend substantially parallel to the plane of cutter blade arrangement 29, FIG. 3, in a direction parallel to the slots 22 While each of the skin contacting edges 25 are arranged in stepped fashion, FIG. 1, on a plane 30 angularly disposed relative to the plane of cutter blade arrangement 29 of the electric razor for manipulation is shown in FIG. 4.
As shown in FIGS. 5, 6 and 7, the comb elements 31 having the slots 22 therebetween are arranged with skin contacting surfaces 32 lying in a plane 33 parallel to the plane of cutter blade arrangement 29. In addition, intermediate the projecting ends 27 beginning at the point 34 the skin contacting surfaces 35 slope longitudinally toward the cutters of the electric razor to provide a cutting action as shown in FIG. 8. It is to be noted, FIGS. 3 and 7, that the bottoms of the slots 22 defined by the juncture of the top of base members 15 and 16 with the bottom of the lug portions 19 are located below the plane of cutter blades arrangement 29 to provide unobstructed guide slots 22 between the comb elements 31 for passage of the hair over the cutting grid 12 of the electric razor.
While the apparatus herein disclosed and described constitutes a preferred form of the invention, it is also to be understood that the apparatus is capable of mechanical alteration without departing from the spirit of the invention and that such mechanical arrangement and commercial adaptation as fall within the scope of the appendent claim are intended to be included herein.
Having thus fully set forth and described this invention what is claimed and desired to be obtained by United States Letters Patent is:
A hair cutting attachment for an electric razor comprising -in combination:
(a) a pair of laterally spaced parallel base members having surfaces adapted to engage mating surfaces on the cutting grid of said electric razor;
(b) upstanding lug portions formed integral with and extending above the top of said base members having further abutment surfaces engaging mating surfaces on the cutting grid of said electric razor;
(c) laterally spaced parallel comb elements bridging the upper edges of said lug portions having slots therebetween extending downwardly in said lug portions to a position below a plane of cutter blade arrangement, said slots providing unobstructed hair guideways over the cutting grid of said electric razor;
(d) skin contacting surfaces on the outer edge of said comb elements lying in a plane parallel to the plane of cutter blade arrangement and spaced thereabove;
(e) and intermediate projecting ends extending from an intermediate point on said skin contacting surfaces sloping longitudinally toward said plane of cutter blade arrangement of said electric razor.
