PATENT em ANNA M. WIDDO'WS, OF AKRON, OHIO.
I HAIR-BOBBING COMB.
Application filed November 8, 1926. fScrial-No;146,930;
This invention relates to combs for use in bobbing hair.
The invention has for one of. its objects the provision of an improved comb for use in bobbing hair, including teeth for pro viding a gage for the scissors so formed as to, in effect, plough upwardly into the hair and effectively distribute the hair between the teeth thereof.
Another object is to provide teeth of different heights whereby the scissors may be guided against the teeth to varying heights and crock cuts will be avoided.
Another object is to provide for use'with the above comb a second comb having teeth adapted to pass between the teeth of the first comb to comb the hair between the teeth of the latter upwardly.
The foregoing and other objects of the in vention may be obtained by the devices illustrated in the accompanying drawings and described below. It is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific form thereof shown and described.
Of the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is an elevation of a comb embodying the invention;
Figure 2 is a left end View thereof;
Figure 3 is a section on line 33 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a diagrammatic View illustrating the comb in a cutting position and a second comb operable between the teeth thereof to comb the hair upwardly;
Figure 5 is a side elevation of the second comb;
Figure 6 is a perspective view'illustrating the manner of use of the comb; and I Figure 7 is a diagrammatic view of a larger size comb in cutting position.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, 10 designates a base shank having blade- like teeth 11, 11 and 12, 12 thereon arranged alternately in pairs, the teeth 12 being of greater height than teeth 11; Each of the teeth is formed substantially plougl1shape, having a head-engaging edge 13 and a scissors-guiding edge 14 arranged at such an angle and of such shape (herein shown straight) as to give the desired style of haircut.
Above the gaging edges of the teeth 11 or 12 they narrow to plough- like prongs 15, 15 at their upper extremities adapted to divide the hairs effectively between the teeth when the comb is pushed upwardly into the hairs ploughing into the hair and dividing the hairs between teeth 11 and 12. The comb 17 is then employed to comb the hair. upwardly between the teeth lland 12. The cutting is then performed against the edges 14: of the teeth from the bottom upwardly to the tops to a line level with the tops of teeth 11.
Working with the points of the scissors the cutting is continued further upwardly along teeth 12 to obviate a crock cut. It will be understood that the cutting of the hair will be progressively performed about the head, the comb being moved after each cutting operation as required. YVith the particular form of comb shown a so-called semishingle bob is given.
It will be understood that combs of various sizes will be provided. In Figure 7 a larger comb is shown having head engaging edges 13 curved substantially to fit the curvature of the back of the head. The gagecutting edges of these teeth may also be curved as indicated at 14. This form of comb is suitable for giving what is known as the boyish bob. r
It will be apparent from the foregoing that a simple, effective and economical device has been provided, whereby hair may be quickly and effectively bobbed even by an inexperienced person. It will also be apparent that modifications of the invention may be resorted to without departing from the spirit thereof or the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is: y
1. A comb including a base shank and teeth having hair-cutting gaging edges thereon extending upwardly from said shank, said edges extending to different heights.
2. A comb for use with a comb having hair-cutting gaging teeth, said first mentioned comb having teeth adapted to pass between said gaging teeth.
3. A comb of the characterdeseriloed eomprising blade-like teeth having edges adapted substantially to fit the curvature of the back of apersons head and having eutter gaging edges curving outwardly atian acute angle thereto.
4. A comb for use in hair cuttingeomfixed to the shank at the apex of one, of the ang1es,vand having 1ts longest edge curved eoncavely tofitlthe curvature of the head, and also having one of its shorter edges ,em'ved.eoneavely to define a cutting gage.
