- Shaping facial hair is a regular, often daily chore. Those who shave often try to form various hair line curves according to their individual desire. Many shavers cannot obtain symmetrical, perfect hair line curves easily and therefore have uneven facial hair or have to shave it off. Other than a man attempting to shave and shape his facial hair on his own to get a symmetrical shaped facial hair style, is to hire a professionally trained barber or hair stylist. This is a way to potentially obtain the desired look, though very costly if a man goes regularly. The other alternative left is either to shave their face completely or wear an unkempt or misshapen beard against their wishes.

Abstract
A facial hair styling tool to assist in grooming, styling, and shaping a man's beard, goatee, mustache, or sideburns while shaving. To style and form the beard, the user places the tool against the side of their face and use the edges to shave over with a razor. The top portion of the tool has leveling markings to ensure an even shave on both sides of the face. An open curvature is located along the tool which can be placed at the side of the neck under the chin where the neck ends and the head begins. Located at the bottom of the tool are elongated teeth for combing the facial hair, be it beard, goatee, mustache, sideburns, eyebrows, or head hair. The comb can be used to assist in trimming hair by simply running the comb thru the hair at the desired spot and trim with clippers or scissors.
Description
- 1. Field of the Invention
- The present invention is directed to assist a man with shaping, shaving, trimming, and combing facial hair that includes beards, mustaches, goatees, and sideburns by placing the tool next to the face after it is in the wanted position and shaving over the tool's edges, helping with shaping and perfecting hair lines and length. By using the built in alignment markings, this can be achieved easily. The tool also assists in shaping the perfect neck line for the user as well; this is very unique compared to any other device created. The user simply places the tool upside down against the neck and shaves over the edge and repeats on the other side. The comb portion was designed to serve thick or thin beard styles, as well as to comb head or facial hair. It does well by serving to help with trimming the facial hair to a desired length and style by using a pair of hair clippers. The tool is to be used in conjunction with all or one of the following items for styling and trimming hair: a hair shaving razor, hair trimming scissors, and hair trimming clippers.
- 2. Description of the Related Art
- It is an all too common occurrence that men with facial hair do not know where or how to properly form the hair on their face to symmetrical and clean shapes. There are many shapes that someone can do but to get it done right is a challenge. The big problem is getting each side of the beard, sideburns, goatee, or mustache symmetrical and lines straight, which quite often results in completely shaving the hair off the face due to an unbalanced look. Whether the facial hair area is thin or thick, it is maintained by shaving or cutting with a shaving razor, scissors, or clippers. Shaping facial hair can be a difficult thing and it's understandable that a man has trouble accomplishing a perfect shape or lines without a guide.
- Previous facial hair shaping devices have shown users how they can shave along a pattern's edge by gliding the razor along the curve or line to get the desired lines of the chosen facial hair pattern. The problem is that the side of the face is not completely flat, so by placing the template up to the face, the razor does not work well, and the majority of razors go under the edge of the template. This is the opposite of what the user desires. Examples of this are template cut outs, an expired patented design of a hand held stick with various curves to shave along, and strips that you stick to the face that in theory serve as a guide to shave a desired shape. These items limit the user as to getting each side even by not allowing the user to be able to tell where to place the objects on each side for the desired style of beard. They also limit the user by not giving them a way to gauge where to shape and shave the neck line, nor finish the styling or trimming of the entire beard, by lacking a typical size comb to complete the job.
- The tool was designed because prior to this, there have not been proper designs to assist in shaving and shaping beard and facial hair lines. Where the others have failed is by using only theory but not practice. Prior devices and templates used for shaving were designed to have the user run a razor along the edge of the device, this however is a flawed design and heavily limits the user's choice of razor and shave. The most effective way is to not run a razor along the edge but to shave over a defined tapered edge of a shaping tool and onto the face or neck; this maximizes the effectiveness and gives the user the ability to use any razor or clippers they choose. With the previous patents, the contour of the face makes the surface uneven and leaves the razor going under the template or tool and thus giving an undesirable shave. They also do not allow the user to get a perfect neck line by not having a tool design that contours to the neck with a tapered edge to shave or clip over and shape the lines properly.
- The preferred invention is a tool which has a number of different tapered shaped edges and curves for facial hair styling, which is able to be used on both sides of the face and neck to get equal and symmetrical results. It includes a comb for styling and assists in trimming any hairs on the face, head, and body. The tool is one piece and is used for shaving perfect lines of the hair on beards, mustaches, sideburns, and goatees. The apparatus is made of a simple, light, inexpensive and compact piece of ABS plastic.
