HAIR TRIMMING GUIDE Filed Sept 22, 1965 p INVENTOR. Q2 4 M055 5E4 [4466/0 United States Patent 3,407,823 HAIR TRIMMING GUIDE Joseph Selvaggio, 32 Hennessey Place, Irvington, NJ. 07111 Filed Sept. 22, 1965, Ser. No. 489,245 1 Claim. (Cl. 13245) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A hair trimming guide adapted to be placed on the rear of the head comprising a unitary device having a central band portion and two arcuate wings. At the juncture of each respective arcuate portion with the central band portion there is disposed integrally a ridge, adding stability to the device and also a means for gripping the device. On the arcuate portion there are grooves which aid in the alignment of the device with the hair.
The present invention relates to a new and improved hair trimming guide used with other devices such as are suitable to glide over the hair sought to be shaved or cut, including such tools as an electric shaver, electric clippers, a Ronson shaver, a Schick shaver, or other shavers of similar design, and more particularly the invention relates to an improved hair trimming guide that may be made from sheet aluminum material or other non-harmful metals or plastics when applied to the hair line, and can be made to form the neck or ear guide line. Similarly, the materials are flexible or frangible and made to conform to the neck or car line in applying the device of the invention to its desired and objective use.
The thickness of the guide may vary according to the degree of flexibility desired by its users and to specifications as sought to be sold. The hair guide of the present invention seeks to provide a device that may be made in various sizes according to desired uses for individuals and their particular needs in providing trimming guides for barbers, as well as for home use.
An object of the present invention therefore is to provide a unique design and form for hair trimming guides that allow it to be applied to the back of the neck and behind the ears for any desired trim with or without assistance of other tools, electric or otherwise.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a Viking hair trimming guide that may be bent to fit and conform to the contour of any individuals neck or afterhead configuration, as they may desire. The thickness of the metals may be at a minimum for achieving the desired flexibility.
The above and other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent upon full consideration of the .following detailed description and accompanying drawings, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a rear perspective view of ones head showing a generally front perspective view of the hair trimming guide in accordance with the preferred embodiment of the present invention and the manner in which it is used;
FIGURE 2 shows a plan view of the hair trimming guide in accordance with the present disclosure of the invention;
FIGURE 3 is a cross-sectional view taken along lines 3-3 of FIGURE 2, showing the manner in which the hair trimming guide may be bent to conform to ones neck and head accordingly, and
FIGURE 4 shows a cross-sectional view taken along lines 4-4 of FIGURE 2.
Referring now to the drawings there is shown a hair 3,407,823 Patented Oct. 29, 1968 trimming guide 10 having a central metal strip portion 12 of thin aluminum, and having conjointly integrally disposed thereto arcuately disposed ends 16, 16, extending from the ends of the metal strip 12 and conformed to fit over the persons ears 18, as shown in FIGURE 1.
Disposed between the strip portion 12 and the ends 16, 16, of arcuate construction, are interposed ridges 22, 22, on the band. The ridges 22, 22, are at the juncture between the strip 12 and the arcuate ends 16, 16, and are used to maintain rigidity of the guide at the juncture points or areas 26, 26, as well as to receive fingers 30, 32, to keep the operators fingers in contact with the guide and without causing the fingers to slip away from the guide when in use.
Although the notches 22, 22, are shown in a generally vertical or perpendicular relation with respect to the axis of the strip 12, they may be obliquely or transversely disposed therein to add to the rigidity of the juncture areas 26, 26.
A series of notches 40, 42, are seen and shown disposed on the under edge of each of the arcuately disposed ends 16, 16, for providing means and information for alignment of the hair trimming guide with the sideburns or corresponding portion of ones scalp, sideburns 44 being shown in an illustrative manner in FIGURE 1 by which the alignment is achieved. The notches may be correspondingly applied for either central or peripheral alignment with the sideburns 44, or may be disposed intermediately thereof as experience will provide.
FIGURE 3 shows the manner in which the hair trimming guide 10 is adapted to be flexed or resiliently contoured to fit to the back of the neck 50, as well as over the ears and disposed in general alignment with the sideburns 44.
Additional embodiments of the invention in this specification will appear to others and, therefore, it is intended that the scope of the invention be limited only by the appended claim and not by the embodiment described hereinabove. Accordingly, reference should be made to the following claim in determining the full scope of the invention.
What is claimed is:
1. A hair trimming guide comprising a thin aluminum strip of metal having a central band portion and ends arcuately extending upwardly, and outwardly therefrom,
'said arcuately disposed ends adapted to be positioned so that the band fits adjacent to the back of ones neck, and each of the arcuately disposed ends fits over the ears, ridges disposed integrally and transversely of the strip band at the juncture area with the arcuately disposed ends to maintain rigidity of the guide, as well as to receive fingers of an operator for pressing against the guide without the fingers slipping from the guide when in use, said thin strip of aluminum metal being substantially flexible throughout, and a series of notches formed in the under edge of the arcuately disposed ends for providing alignment information to such operator in aligning the arcuately disposed ends with a portion of the sideburns.
