The clip 26 is formed of resilient material and may :be sprung into and out of place; This clip 2a is providedwith-a pair-or Qpl' ositelyidisposed, arms 27,,the ends 28of which extendintojapertures 29 in ears 3E] integral with theside. flanges 55.
v This tape l4 may be 35 of any suitablewidth or maybe doubled to DIQ- IQ of the'base 18. The arms 21 extend to form the extremities 25 and are doubled over for a short distance at the extremity and then connect by the cross member 32.
The tape {4 extends between the'flange 20 and the cross member 32 of the clip 26. The
tape then bends at right angles to itself and extends between the side flanges 21 and beneath the arms I 9 to terminate at 33. A terminal member in the form of a half round wire clip 34 secured in oppositely disposed notches in the end 33 of the tape prevents the movement of this end 'of the tape i4 past the extremities 28 of the clip 26.
The bending of the tape 14 at right angles and the passing of the tape between the clip 26 and the bracket I1 provides a friction which is sufficient to hold the sash C'in any adjusted position from movement by wind, rain,
or snow.
In order to lock the window sash C to the frame B, I provide a locking means illustrated in Figure 5 of the drawing. This means comprises a latch 35 pivoted on a pintle 36 extending through the parallel braces 22 on the clip I! and engageable over the flange l3 of the bracket ID. .The hook end 3'! of the latch 35 engages this flange l3 and prevents the swinging of the sash C away from the frame B until the latch is released. It may be seen that this latch 35 will close automatically and the hook end 31 will rest upon the top surface of the tape I4, will slide over the rounded head of the bolt l5 and over the edge of the flange l3.
In order to prevent the extremity 33 of the tape l4 from depending too far below the bracket l'l, it is possible for me to provide a bracket 36 similar to the bracket I! but having integral therewith a cylinder 3! within which the tape will roll upon itself and be contained when the sash C is drawn close to the frame B. The extremity 33 of the tape l4 may in this way be at 'all times concealed and may cause the tape M to curl up ina spiral roll within the cylinder 31' The manner in which the tape I 4 may be released from the bracket l may be easily seen. The end of the tape l4 must beheld at right angles to its normal position, the head of the rivet i inserted through theslot l6, and the tape then turned into proper position to be readily removed from the bracket l0 when desired. The tape l4 may also be released from the bracket ll. This is'accomplished byflexing inwardly the arms 27 of the spring clip 26 to release the ends 28 thereof from the. openings 21 in the ears '30. When the ends 28 are released the spring clip 26 as a whole may be slidably disengaged from the notches 24 in the flange 2|]. Thus the tape may be quickly removed from the bracket i? for disengaging the tape M from thisbracket, or for replacing the tape Hi.
In accordance with the patent statutes I have described the principles of construction of my fastener and while I have endeavored to set forth the best embodiments thereof, I desire to have it the spirit of my invention.
I claim: 1. A fastener for a pair of relatively pivotal members including a bracket secured to one of said members, a steel tape connected to said bracket, a bracket on the other of said pivotal members, and means on said last named bracket frictionally engaging said tape, said means sharply changing the direction of said tape and overlying a substantial length thereof adjacent said change of direction.
2. A fastener for relatively movable members comprising a bracket secured to one of said members, a tape anchored to said bracket, and means on the other of said members for frictionally engaging said tape, said means acting to sharply change the direction of said tape.
3. A fastener for a pair of relatively movable members comprising a tape capable of withstanding considerable compression without bending, means for anchoring said tape to one of said movable members, and means on the other of said members for frictionally engaging the other end of said tape and causing a sharp bend therein.
4. A'fastener for relatively movable members including abracket on one of said members, a tape anchored to said bracket, a bracket on the other of said members, and spring clip means for detachably and frictionally connecting said tape to said last named bracket, said spring slip resiliently engaging said tape.
5. A fastener for relatively movable members including a bracket on one of said members, a metallic tape arcuate in cross-section connected to said bracket, a bracket on the other of said members, and spring clip means securing said tape to said bracket in a manner to change the direction of said tape, said spring clip acting to bend said tape and flatten the same at said bend.
6. A fastener for a pair of relatively movable members including a bracket on one of said members, a tape arcuate in cross-section connected to said bracket, a bracket on the other of said members, and means on said last named bracket for changing the direction of said tape to flatten the tape arcuation at the bend to provide spring tension between said last named bracket and said tape.
7. A fastener for relatively movable members includinga bracketon one of said members, a tape secured to said bracket, a bracket on the other of said members frictionally engaging said.
tape, said last named bracket sharply bending said tape, and latch means on said last named bracket engageable with the first named bracket to lock said brackets and said members together.
8. A fastener for relatively movable members including a flexible tape, means for removably connecting said tape to one of said members, a bracket frictionally engaging said tape, said last named bracket being mounted on the other of said members, and substantially cylindrical hollow guide means on said last named bracket having a slot therein through which said tape extends into said hollow guide means for guiding said tape into a spiral roll.
9. A fastener for relatively movable members includinga bracket on one of said members, a second bracket on the other of said members, and means anchored to one of said brackets frictionally and slidably engageable with the other of said brackets at a sharp bend in said tape to hold said members at any required distance apart.
