JULIA D. BANFIELD, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN CORSETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 217,721, dated July 22, 1879; application led December 3, 1877.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JULIA D. BANFIELD, of Boston, in the county of Suiolk and State of iWIassaehusetts, have invented an Improved Corset, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bosom-pad corsets 5 and consists in a bosom-pad corset in which three gores tapering toward each end are inserted between four separate sections or pieces of the corset, the edges of which are sewed together below the gores in the direction of the lower end of the corset.
Figure l represents in front View sufcient portion of the front of a corset to illustrate one embodiment of myinvention. Fig. 2 represents one of the gore-pieces separate from the corset.
In Fig. 1 the immediate front of the corset is composed of four pieces, a e c g, extending from the bottom to the top ot' `the corset. The pieces c e are made small at the center of the bust, as at 2 5 narrower at or near the lower end of the bust, as at 3; and then in this instance are again made broad, as at 4, between the lower portion of the bust and the bottom of the corset, where the strips are again narrowed, as at 5, to form an abdominal corset.
The gore-pieces b d are broadest at 6, and made narrower at 7 S, and are stitched, the gore b between the pieces a c, and the gore d between the pieces c e-the seams 9 10, joining the pieces a o e, extending toward the lower end of the corset.
The side gore, j', of the bust is stitched between the pieces e g, the seam 13 extending downward from the bottom of the gore f.
I claim- In a bosom-pad corset, three gore-pieces, b d f, in combination with the long body-pieces a c c g and the gore-intersecting seams 9 10 13, substantially as described.
