UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MAX ADLER, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT.
CORSET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 237,228, dated February 1, 1881.
Application filed May 6, 1880. (ModeL) T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MAX ADLER, of New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Corsets 5 and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawing constitutes part of this specification, and represents a side view of the hip portion.
This invention relates to an improvementin the method of staying the hip-sections of the corset, the object being to preserve the proper shape over the hip-joint and yet prevent the wrinkling of the corset and breaking of the bones in that part; and the invention consists in the construction, as hereinafter described, and particularly recited in the claim.
A B represent the two parts of the hip-section, between which is avertical stay,\C. On the part A, and at the edge next the stay C, a gore-piece, D, is introduced, extending from about midway of the length of the part A to the bottom, its front line curved forward and downward. In the gore D pockets are made, curved according to the curve of the front edge, and stays or bones placed in these pockets, which give to the stays a corresponding curvature. On the front edge of the rear section, B, is a similar curve-shaped gore, E,'and is in like manner provided with curved pockets and bones, curving from the central stay, C,
backward and downward to the lower edge of 3 5 which would be given by an inclined series of 5 stays and a transverse crossing series of stays in the same section.
I do not broadly claim a series of stays in a hip-section of a corset curved downward and forward, as such I am aware is not new; neither do I broadly claim a vertical hip-stay connected with a series of stays running forward and backward from it, as such Iain aware is not new.
I claim- A corset having the parts A B of the hipseotion provided with a vertical stay between them, and a series of bones or stays running from the rear of said vertical stay in a curved line backward and downward to the lower edge, and a like series from the front of said stay curved forward and downward to the lower edge of the corset, substantially as described.
MAX ADLER. Witnesses Jos. C. EARLE, J. H. SHUMWAY.
