IMPROVEMENT IN KITCHEN-CABINETS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 217,694, dated July 22, 1879; application filed April 9, 1879.

To all whom it mag concern.-

Be it known that I, J. R. KIVETT, of Gentre Valley, in the county of Hendricks and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Kitchen-Cabinets and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 is a cross-section.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.

This invention relates to kitchen-cabinets and flour bins or chests; and it consists in certain improvements in the construction of the same, which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the drawings, A A represent the sides, B the back, and O the front, of the case, which is made in the shape of a parlor-organ. The top is made in two sections, the rear one of which, D, is permanently secured, while the front one, E, is hinged to the section D, and provided with a downwardly-projectin g cover,

F, which forms the front cover of the cabinet.

G is a horizontal partition, provided with a hinged cover, H, and forming, with the sides A A, back B,front G, and bottom I, the chest or bin, in which flour or meal, or both, may be kept ready for use.

Upon the partition G, at the sides of the case, I arrange several tiers of drawers, J J,

p for salt, spices, and the like.

The cover F may be provided with one or more rows of shelving, K, upon which various utensils, such as a rolling-pin, flour-sieve, 850., may be placed and retained by pivoted clasps L, such shelves with contents being, when the cover is closed, accommodated in the space above partition Gr.

By this arrangement such utensils will be conveniently exposed as soon as the cover is opened, and the partition G with the hinged cover H is at the same time left free from obstructing utensils.

M M represent springs, attached to the cover in such a manner as to abut against the drawers J when the cover is closed, thus keeping said drawers securely closed in case the cabinet should be moved about.

This improved kitchen-cabinet is simple, neat, convenient, and ornamental, and maybe constructed at a moderate expense.

Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States As an improvement in kitchen-cabinets, the case A A B O D I, having horizontal partition G, with hinged cover H, and vertical tiers of drawers J J, in combination with the hinged cover E F, having shelving K and springs M, arranged to operate upon the drawers J when the said cover is closed, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
