Description

S PATENT OFFICE.
W UNITED STA HIRAM A. S. PARK, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT m DETERGENT COMPOUNDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 216,805, dated June 24, 1879; application filed August 3, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HIRAM A. S. PARK, M. D., of the city of Indianapolis, county of Marion, and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Detergent Com pounds, which compound is fully set forth and described in the following specification.
My invention relates to that class of compositions of matter known as detergent compounds and it consists in formingacompound of the following ingredients, viz: sulpho-carllqlgtmofisoda, hyposulphite of semi carbonate ofsoda, and water.
e method of mixing my ingredients is simply to add the sulpho-carbolate of soda to the cleanses them, but protects and preserves their fibers, and produces a valuable detersive and a sanitary effect.
My compound is adapted to the use of the toilet and bath, as well as for dentifrice, surgical, and laundry purposes.
Further, the said compound is not only a detergent, but it may also be used for the treatment and prevention of what is commonly known as hog and poultry cholera, and for freeing horses and other animals from bots, worms, &c.
Any of the sulpho-carbolates maybe used hyposnlphite of soda in parts of one of the former salts to two of the latter; then as much of the carbonate of soda is added as both of the former salts together; then add sufficientwater todi ssol ve the salts; then sufiicient starch viz., of zinc ma nesia otash oriron-and any of the equivalents of sEarcIi may he substitufi edas, for instance, cereal pastes.
The effect produced by my compound is that of deoxidation by sulpho-carbolation. Grease is used in soaps as an agent for modifying the action of the alkalies.
The use of my com- & is added to form a thick pasteor powder.
This compound may be added to soap-pastes when in the frame, and crutched until cool. From ten to fifteen per cent. or more may be added to the soaps.
i- The compound itself may be used of any pound in soaps adds a deoxidizing agent to such soaps.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The detergent compound herein (168W 11 strength for cleansing purposes without injury consisting of sulpho-carbolatg of soda, hypoto clothes or flesh. sulphite of so a, s 1, carbonate of soda It is evident, therefore, that my compound an \Wr, as and or e purpose specified.
may be used by itself as a detergent, or it may be added to soaps, soap-pastes, solutions, or HIRAM K [4,, Ja powders. Witnesses: 9/ L e- However delicate may be the material to JEssE S. Jonas, A which my compound is applied, it not only J. W. PENDERGAST. M" u
