IMPROVEMENT IN HUSKlNG-PINS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 216,672, dated June 17, 1879; application filed September 18, 1878.

It is common to secure a husking-pin to the hand by means of a strap or holder passing over the two middle fingers; but when thus secured the closing of the hand in using the pin tends to depress the point of the pin, bringing it in such position on the forefinger as to cause the use of the pin to be attended with some difficulty and discomfort, the position of the point being such as not to leave the forefinger free to guide and operate it to th fullest extent.
The object of this invention is to secure a husking-pin to the hand, so as to bring the point in proper working position for the forefinger to guide and operate itwith ease and comfort to the wearer; and it consists in providing the pin with two openings or receptacles formed by straps, or in some other suitable manner, one of which is adapted to receive the last two fingers of the hand, and the other the middle finger; and in combining with such device a cot or finger to receive the forefinger. In the drawings, A represents a huskingpin; B O, the openings or receptacles for the fingers; B G, the straps; D, the cot or guard; to, the rivets; b, the fastening-string; c, the lacing-string.
The pin A may be made of sheet metal in the form shown, or in any other suitable manner, its shank being provided with a series of holes to secure the straps in place.
The receptacle B, which is designed to receive the last two fingers of the hand, is formed from the strap B, which, as shown, is in two pieces, but may be made of a single piece, if desired, the strap being secured to the pin A by means of rivets a, or in some other suitable manner, so as to leave its ends free; and the receptacle (J, which is designed to receive the middle finger, is formed by the inner portion of the strap B and the strap 0, also secured by means of arivet, a, or in some other suitable manner, to the shank of the pin A, so as to leave its end free. g
The free ends of the straps B G are each provided with a series of holes, and the receptacles B O are formed by bringing the ends of the straps B C together, and securing them by passing a string, b, or other suitable fastener through the holes in the straps,
and tying or otherwise fastening the string or securing the fastening device.
The size of the openings B O can be varied accordingly as the string is passed through the outer or inner holes in the straps, thus adapting thepin to be worn on hands of different sizes, and for this reason I make the straps B G with a series of holes.
The cot or finger D is made from two pieces of material cut in the required form, and secured to the body of the pin by means of a string, so as to make the connection flexible, to givelfreedom of movement to the forefinger when inserted therein, the upper edges being secured together by a lacin g-strin g, c, or in some other suitable manner.
The object of this cot is to protect the forefinger in use, and at the same time not interfere with its guiding and operating the point of the pin in connection with the thumb.
If desired, the cot or guard D may be dispensed with.
By inserting the two last fingers in the opening B, and the middle finger in the opening 0, the point of the pin will be thrown farther out, bringing it in a better position to be controlled by the forefinger, and the position of the pin will be such as to add greatly to the ease and comfort with which it can be worn and the facility with which it can be used.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
