therefore, provides a reasonably made and simply constructed display which is neat and attractive in appearance and requires no fastening means which might injureor deface the store fixture to which it is secured. The fact that it is at all times adapted for use in supports of various widths permits mass production of the device without regard to the support to which individual displays will be ultimately secured.

In addition the rigid support engaging elements 24 are positioned inwardly from the front edge of the body 20 in suitable slots or cut-outs 2.5 so that the bottom of the body can rest flatly upon a'suitablesupporting medium 26 which may be the top of a cash-register, a shelf molding or any other convenient store fixture. Due to the fact that the support-engaging elements lie normally a substantial distance in from the front and rear edges of the body, the latter can be secured to a supporting element which is of considerably less width than that of the body. Naturally the body is adapted to support and display a suitable sign element 21 or some similar device.

In the embodiment shown in Fig. 6 the body 28- supports a sign 2!! and is, in turn, detachably secured to a convenient piece of store furniture 30 by means of rigid engaging elements 3| secured within slots 32. These rigid elements 3| are preferably positioned toward the rear edge of the body 28 where they cooperate with resilient arms 33 which are connected with a coil or other type of spring element 3|, the latter being anchored within a horizontal slot or cut-out 35 similar to the cut-out 8 shown in Figs. 2 and 3. With the engaging elements arranged as in Fig. 6, it is possible to secure, the horizontal body 28 in such a manner that it will extend considerably beyond the front edge of the store fixture 30 to which it is secured. Of course, if desired, the sign element or other article to-be displayed may be positioned at the front edge of the body 28 or may be placed in any satisfactory relation to the body best suitedfor effective display purposes.

It will, of course, be understood, that various changes may be made in the form, details, arrangements and proportions of the various parts without departing from the scope of my invention.

What is claimed is:

1. In a support engaging base for axdisplay device and the like, a body having a substantially fiat bottom contact surface, a rigid support engaging element extending downwardly from said body adjacent one side thereof to a point below said flat bottom surface, said body having a reoess therein extending inwardly from a side thereof, a pair of spring tensioned arms having portions anchored in said recess and also having portions swingable out of said recess in a substantially horizontal plane above said flat bottom'surface, said arms having ends provided with portions extending downwardly'below said fiat bottom surface and said amend their downwardly extending portions being swingable under tension away from said rigid element.

2. A support engaging base for a display device comprising a body having a substantially flat bottom surface for contacting the top of said support, a rigid element secured to said body and extending below said bottom surface to engage a lateral surface of said support, spring arms swingable in a plane substantially parallel to said bottom surface mounted on said body and means extending from saidspring arms below said bottom surface to engage a lateral surface of said support opposite said first named lateral surface.

3. In the support engaging base of claim 2, said last-named means comprising downwardly turned portions at the ends of said spring arms and resilient means on said portions toprevent accidental slippage of said arms when gripping a support.
